The first home test for India in 2012 and they are playing the struggling New Zealand. India should be favorites to win this one but the beginning rates underestimate New Zealand. Indian bowling attack is a problem and they surely dont deserve 1.7s at this stage. Your thoughts..!!!
Draw all the way. The price of the draw will go up when they play for the first 2 days, then the rain will save the Kiwis from being embarrassed. India are not the team of old and the India bowlers have a lot to prove in test formats after the suffering they have suffered against the Aussies and England. India have an element of doubt about themselves mentally and are in a transition period where their confidence is low, also the selector do not even know which bowlers to pick with confidence. If there picking that crap Kachi Ishantt Sharma, then you know India have no decent players as he has been injured for ages and has no played competitive cricket for a long time and he is trying to build himself up. India do not have no bowlers that can cause the Kiwis to be in fear, rather they will gain confidence as the test goes on. The only time the Indians are a decent bet is in the shorter format of the game. Do not trust India at 1.73.

Wait till the match day for a better idea of the weather forecast and lump and leave if you dont have time. If you do then trade while never having a red on India.
India rarely lose in India and hardly draw especially against an opposition like NZ. Last time India drew was against Windies in Bombay and there the odds went to 1.1 on the last day before Ashiwn had a brain freeze and India fell1 run short.

True but Ashwin a different beast on Indian pitches and finally got rid of Harby. Beat Aussies 2-0 (In a 2 test series) and Windies 2-0 since
NZ have an appaling team. DOnt see them taking 20 Indian wickets without a quality spinner even without Dravid and Laxman. Will compete in short burst with McCullum, Taylor, Marty and Williamson but wont challenge seriously

Agree with you 100% re NZ taking 20 wickets rohit - best NZ can hope for is a draw. Bit unfair to call them appalling tho - they put up a decent fight against the saffers in NZ recently and had a chance to win the second test against WI. To have a chance of drawing a test in India they need to bat first and a bit of help from the weather wouldn't go amiss.

They have some decent players for their pitches. Not sure how effective Martin, Southee, Boult and Browlnie will be in India and Vettori is fading fast.
If they get a 1st day morning life in a pitch they can nick a few but cant win in INdia without a good spinner and Vettori barely qualifies.
With weather they can draw a test ofcourse but 1.75 is value on INdia unless it rains a lot. Can make more if you trade well ofcourse but difficult to spend that amount of time during peak morning hours so lump and leave for me when I see the toss

All the weather forecasts predict a rainy few days especially during the weekend. Beware of backing the mentally weak Indians who have been ruled by any one who desires to invade, they have always been weak and will continue to be weak minded. They ain't no England/ SA who would eat the Kiwi's to pieces within 3 days. Getting rid of Bhaji (born and bred punjabi) was the worst mistake, he is not a top wicket taker any more but he was mentally strong and the rest of the team followed his example, leading to the no. 1 spot, Ashwin is quality but does not have the same mental pedigree as Bhaji.

Plenty of rain on BBC weather but lost my shirt when Hurricane Ernesto turned up late. NZ are crap but can they bat out for the draw? Don't know whether to lay India or back the draw?
Any advice? Anyone with relatives in Hyderabad?

even if new zealand played negative cricket and batted 100 overs 1st innings and scored 230 runs the odds of a draw will likely , but can they bat out a day or will they crumble

The weather channel points to no rain on first day so probably best to wait for the toss anyway. If India bat first I can see them racking up 600. I think extreme pace did for NZ in their last match. On these pitches I don't think they will be unduly troubled until the ball starts turning. Ashwin has a high arm and Dhoni is expecting turn and bounce but I'd still rather India bat first for 2 days.

No doubts about Kohli and even Raina will fill his boots but he has such a problem with short pitched fast bowling I just wonder if he has had as much practice as Bairstow. He would make a great player if he did. Indian pitches and NZ bowelers won't trouble him or the rest of the Indian batting.
I would be really careful about going heavy on India during the monsoon. If they bat first I would lay them back heavy at the end of the day just in case.

Not matched yet, so I'm just waiting on the toss news. Just been in contact with a friend in India, says the weather is very topsy. Daily forecasts of rain but sometimes it never comes and sometimes it pours down

over 5days id find it hard for them not to lose some overs, i dont think this indian attack is good enough to get stuck in and whip out the kiwis quick, they should be able to hang around a little, india batting first would push the draw in i think with likelyhood of rain more so during weekend.

Runs are easy here...problem is with Indian attack..they dont seem potent enough to take 20 wickets..plus the rain around..I would think draw is a good bet here.

The weather is the only thing that will stop India here. NZ might make400 on this pitch but will probably get 88 in the second. I think they will avoid the follow on specially as Kohli threw his wicket away.
Draw would be my bet but obviously that would be a weather gamble but at a better price than backing India.

India throwing their wickets away! If I had bet India I would be happy to get NZ in asap. The ball swings early on and the pitch looks increasingly likely to take spin.

The run rate is a lot better than most Indian first days. They tend to be 2.7 ish and you end up with 270/3 or 4.
Also good to see a full 90 overs in - so bad light will not be an issue at this time of the year.

The Hyderabad pitch is not as flat as the 2010 draw between NZ and India - and is already taking spin. Can't see anything beyond an India win right now.

This is a weird market which doesn't trust NZ at all and so the prices aren't budging as much as they should. I think the draw is currently the best bet on the basis India will get a good total and NZ will slowly accumulate and avoid the follow on. Then there's always the possibility of rain. I'm not convinced it will end as a draw but I think the odds could fall well below evens at some point (bringing India above evens) as and when NZ put a decent partnership together.

NZ is crap but that crap...and India aint no brilliant side as well..they dont even have 1 and half decent bowler to be honest..for now I see NZ atleast batting 3 sessions in the first innings...which would at least bring the draw to sub evens..lets see

Still not placed the bet yet...it should be a clear day tomorrow and then the rain steps in..saturday might be a washout given the amount of rain predcited then...so I am just wondering if i should bite the bullet...the key is i dont see India declaring till late after tea tomorrow if they get there...and then if Saturday is a washout...well then the time is too less for a result...thinking..!!!

Timbo - "This session will go on till 5pm at least as long as the light holds" is what cricinfo are saying. It's 2.35 out there now so a possible 2 and a half hours left.

If you want to lay the draw it may be worth leaving it til tomorrow to see what the weather does. The only risk is that NZ lose wickets tonight AND the skies clear tomorrow in which case it will drift higher. I'm still sticking to the belief that backing the draw at 3s and 2.7s was a good shout (albeit halving the the exposure at evens).

Just as NZ were actually putting a decent partnership together, they go and lose another wicket right at the death
99/5 and still a long way from avoiding that follow on

Got greedy then. Luckily I've traded all exposure before it got too silly and have the grand sum of £5 if India win! FFS. NZ batting even more of a shambles that I thought it would be. d13phe - you wouldn't have got that much more for backing India... you made a pretty good call in my book.

Said this a million times in India. A totally different team that got hammered against England and Australia.
They bat decent and the market thinks the other team will survive. Odds go up but then Ashwin and Ojha and Bhajji and Kumble who can look pedestrian overseas suddenly become brilliant.
Same story will repeat itself in the next 2 tests and agaisnt England later in the year

I very much doubt we'll see odds against india the rest of this match...Kiwis look likely to follow on here , innings defeat also possible , barring weather , india win sometime on day 4 for me ...

scattered thunderstorms, 60% chance of percip, not sure how that translates with usual Indian weather really but i might check out the odds later today, 60% chance monday as well, 20% sunday

Lix 2.2 assuming you get the top end of the market. NZ started batting at 2 and luckily I was at lunch
Will always make more money trading but the India tests are right dduring my work hours (Yes I have a full time job)
So 1.8 SP against NZ is godsent.
India has been short of rain and Hyderabad is no Mumbai where it buckets down for 2 days. Unlikley not to get a result though India must enforce the follow on if they can

Coney, Kartik & O' Brien been a good trio SKY have had on duty for this game. Just Coney & Kartik today but good discussion nonetheless with some really interesting stuff about spin bowling from Kartik.

No forecast rain tomorrow according to this (presuming this is the same Hyderadad!)http://www.yr.no/place/India/Andhra_Pradesh/Hyderabad/hour_by_hour.html
1.28 looks value to me - forecasts suggest no rain at all tomorrow - should be enough time for India to bowl NZ out and even bat whatever they need to win. That's if there's no play at all on Monday

well the match was delayed starting and the indians havnt broken this 2nd wicket partnership the longest of for the kiwis so far. The draw has been driven right into 2.3 as theirs likely not a full day tomorrow either. dont know how i feel i was on draw at last night knowing id at least get trade, but the kiwis we know can just give their wickets away.

well said Rohit ... great to see Pujara hit that 159 ...same amount of runs as the kiwi first innings total , great match to trade , with plenty of post stumps swings , but in the end India winning easily by an innings and 115 on day 4 as predicted , expecting much the same in the second test in Bangalore starting this friday
