Finn lasted 40 balls against a pretty new ball in the first innings. Draw wasn't impossible if they had just tried to block out for the draw. South Africa was still paying $1.04 when Finn walked out to bat though.

The Eng that played Oz in Oz, & whitewashed India last year would beat this SA side comfortably. Confidence destroyed on that disastrous tour of UAE. 6 test losses in last 11 matches beyond abysmal from such a talented group of players. SA had incentive of getting to world no1 whereas Eng have forgotten how to win tests. Broad & Swann both a shadow of their best with the ball. Top 6 has looked weaker ever since Colly retired, but the fielding has been unbelievably poor. The KP situation not helped one iota... biggest disappointment is the fact it was a 3-test series when it's world no1 vs world no2 which suggests test cricket really is dying.

no thats bollocks I'm afraid. we've been beat fair and square. we beat a v poor Aus and a very poor India to get to No1 Saffers worthy No1s for the time being. will have a tough job winning in Aus now they are on the up tho.
We beat a horror Aus side containing several passengers... Katich... North..Smith X-doh, unfit Bollinger etc..

Think Saffers may well have lost this test had boucher been fit. He was looking totally gone at the game. His replacement at 7, Duminy got 87 runs.
AB behind the stumps did just fine.

sorry lix but that is bollox... Eng win in Oz 3-1 & it's only cos Oz are rubbish. Nonsense. Eng were awesome & made Oz look sh*t. The same India side that was stuffed 4-0 drew in SA vs SA. You throw out that argument about Eng getting to no1 by beating rubbish, can throw same one back that Eng didn't turn up for this series.

no it was the worst Aus side in 20+ years mate. this is a fact. They were carrying lots of sh1te. they have sacked the selectors for picking em. If the ashes was a 3 match series it woulda finished 1-1....
India were always false no1s and eng picked up huge ranking points by battering em 4-0. Eng were worthy No1s at the time but saffers easily the best side at the moment.

A massive difference has been, in Oz and last summer vs India, Eng batsmen were in brilliant form, collectively, and regardless of Z.Khan injury & Oz attack shorn of McGrath/Warne, Eng posted big totals & then the bowlers could apply pressure by giving away few runs. This year, the batsmen have been in far, far worse form & likes of Broad and Swann have been far less potent with the ball. The shelling of catches has also been truly abysmal. Still think the 3-0 loss vs Pakistan dented side's confidence enormously and they've under-performed year-long. Yes, well done SA. They've played to the peak of their powers this summer but they definitely met a severely under-performing and malfunctioning Eng side. The whole KP fiasco felt symptomatic of the team's general malaise. Was in Oz & saw last Ashes series, & this summer's test side has been a shadow of that team.
