What sites you looking at for all this rain envy ? Looks pretty dry for th great bulk of the game where I've been looking - when you factor in time can be made up and Lords excellent drainage would expect a pretty full match.

Plenty of rain forecast.

showers showers showers showers showers.

No rain at all - what on earth are you talking about?

Saffers bat first there will be a massive squeeze on the draw as they will be just bat and bat if they can.
Eng bat first and I wouldn't want to be on the draw as England will need to force the pace and offer the Saffers something to go for. |
By:
yes, Eng will defo give SA something chasable on day 5 if we bat well enough (which is a massive if looking
at our middle order here..) |
By:
Yes doubt England will be declaring either innings. Matter of whether the bowlers can deliver.
By:
current forecast looks like it may assist swing for the first three days.
By:
The only swing forecast I have seen was in Jazz n Blues
By:
"Matter of whether the bowlers can deliver."
We already know the answer to that. They can't. But they can talk smack about KP to the media quite effectively. |
By:
alot of cloud cover with no rain for at least 3 days means the draw is a big lay for me,plus england must try & force a result.
By:
there is no problem with weather at all , friday is looking much better now. might lose some overs on sunday bcos of bad light may be 10. so 450 overs . plenty for bowlers first session. have been laying draw from 2.3 laying more at 2.5.

i think we are likely to see a good old Lords Road myself.
gate receipts are more important than test results these days |
By:
Lords produces results. No draw here.
By:
Yep unless poor weather rarely a draw at Lords, BUT personally feel that if SA bat first draw certainly is a massive player as we could see a massive large 1st innings total posted, they wont give England a sniff all they are concerned about is winning the series, but an England middle order looks a tad flakey with Bell, Bairstow and Taylor, if the dependable Prior fails England could be in trouble. England 3/1 shots and with all thats gone on recently they have to be outsiders of 3, there is a view that they should be longer, they were 3.7 b4 kp was dropped, now 4.0 i think the change of kp for jonny warrants more than a 30tick movement, he is that good..........

saffers have plenty of previous when it comes to chucking away 1-0 series leads. Batting 1st or 2nd doesnt
seem to matter.. when they go into a test needing only a draw to win the series they usually f uck it up.. were 240/4 batting 1st vs Aus last year.. AO for 266 and lost the game ![]() were 229/2 batting 1st vs SA in 2010. A draw would see them go No1... AO for 296 and lose by an inns ![]() Can see similar happening here. |

I presume the first 4 days are pretty much sold out. It would have made sense to either leave the pitch very dry or green it up.
It's not as if the match would be over in 3 days. Always likely to make Sunday. |
By:
The Saffers will have to try real hard to mess this one up with England's middle order and the way their bowlers have gone.
By:
You're assuming Taylor and Bairstow won't deliver.
They're both very talented and should go well. |

I'll definitely be selling their runs when they come in to bat.

Lots of tix still available for all days i believe. £70-£100 tho. Think lots of punters have spent money on Olympic tix instead this yr |

By:
I can see ENG winning this - it's an outside bet but they are going to be fired up - we'll show KP mentality.
By:
I can see Eng winning this too but think we'll trade a fair bit higher 1st as the market writes us off
on the 1st sight of a decent saffer partnership. |
By:
Yeah, mine's £75. Not cheap but it is HQ.
The olympics stole the headlines and the 3 match series leaves many underwhelmed. |
By:
was always ludicrous scheduling. show had this series in may/june, played the one dayers first or just had lower profile opposition for both series this summmer.
can hardly blame the ecb. they only knew for 7 years there was little local event that might just steal top billing from this series |
By:
Not sure there's many tickets left, think it's the odds and sods. Ballot definitely oversubscribed for tomorrow (or they didn't like my application!).

In last 6 years of the 14 tests played in lords 7 have been draws and 7 have been results..results against 2 West Indies, 1 Pakistan,1 Australia, 1 India, 1 Bangladesh out of which only notable win was the one against the aussies....remaining others are victories against teams who know almost nothing about playing in these conditions(given there track record)..i dont think South Africa falls into that category..it can be a result match but in that case there would be only one result which is SA win.
By:
Mis-use of stats. Last 7 tests have only lead to 1 draw - and that was due to 70 overs lost to rain vs Sri Lanka.
The 6 previous tests to that were all draws - following this, Lords, and their groundsman, Mick Hunt were heavily criticised - they blamed it on the new drainage, and hence the last 7 tests have seen pitches more tailored to results as more grass has been left on. 6 out of the last 7 matches have produced results - thats the key stat. |
By:
And amongst those wins only notable is the one against the aussies...others were all against sides which are really no threat in these conditions..while you can choose to say that previous 7 draws were due to poor pitch and the current pitch is a result pitch in that case in my opinion there is only one winner which is SA not England not this side who are not even sure who would be there starting 11
By:
yep england's preparation has been far from ideal but you've gotta be a brave man to trust south africa when it really matters as it does now. they ain't notorious chokers for no reason
By:
plenty of results at Lords in August tests tho
![]() |
By:
Eng a bit big now at 4.1 I think especially if they win the toss.
By:
if SA win the toss and bat, bank job on the draw in the 2nd session
By:
In my ideal world for this test Bopara and KP would be playing today, lets forget about the batting being weaker for their omission, bopara is debateable KP is not, but the fill in overs that both can bowl will be a huge loss. England are not going into this test with 5 bowlers, they cant with KP missing, so they rely on 3 seamers and Swann. On a flat Lords track personally feel that a further -ve to Englands chances.
By:
morgan should have been called in.. still cant see how he is now so far down the pecking order..
By:
Wickets looks an absolute road
whoever wins will bat first |
By:
I would have gone with Morgan for this Test to add experience to the side, he hasnt fulfilled at test level but he can score quickly, mess with bowlers lines and just be a pain in the arse to opposition. Defo a case of win toss bat
By:
Do we think they will drop Finn?
By:
wicket may be a road but good overhead conditions for swing
