Think the pre match talk will be about the weather on this one.

Its due to rain every day this week - may hamper the pitch preparation

I think they have to play until the last hour? Once the umpires call the last hour, the captains can shake hands. So 15 overs from the end. Around the 83 overs mark on Monday.
Report d13phe August 6, 2012 8:45 AM BST
real shame that weather has spoilt this test match as it was bubbling up nicely and I had managed to accumulate a huge green on England

going to be tough to force a result at Lords
Report tonyf August 6, 2012 9:32 AM BST
raining again
Report rockstar22 August 6, 2012 10:07 AM BST

Report EnvyMyGreen August 6, 2012 10:53 AM BST
England look pumped Saffers will be bricking it if we get a full day.
Report EnvyMyGreen August 6, 2012 11:00 AM BST
You've gotta fancy England to roll through them this morning in these conditions.
Report d13phe August 6, 2012 11:12 AM BST
3 England bowlers playing for their place today imo

all except Jimmy A
Report kingmax August 6, 2012 11:14 AM BST
full bank on the draw now
Report d13phe August 6, 2012 11:16 AM BST
you will have no problems collecting king max imo

this one will be a draw no worries.

england bowling looks toothless again.
Report kingmax August 6, 2012 11:18 AM BST
the question is do SA declare at all.. i think no..
Report EnvyMyGreen August 6, 2012 11:18 AM BST
Backing the draw at 1/50 in these conditions? No way! Eng bowlers are making it talk this morning. 4 or 5 down by lunch I hope.
Report kingmax August 6, 2012 11:18 AM BST
Laugh do you watch cricket much
Report d13phe August 6, 2012 11:18 AM BST
why would they

unless they want to give their bowlers a run out at the end to nip a couple of England bats out.

i cannot see them doing that though
Report kingmax August 6, 2012 11:19 AM BST
sends more of a message to england if they bat.. you cant take 20 wickets.. your ****.
Report EnvyMyGreen August 6, 2012 11:19 AM BST
I wouldn't rule out a dec. Smiffy is a very aggressive captain willing to risk losing for the chance to win.
Report d13phe August 6, 2012 11:19 AM BST
Broad pumped up

realises he is going to lose his place

bit late now Stuart
Report EnvyMyGreen August 6, 2012 11:20 AM BST
Stu only needs a wicket today and his place will be safe.
Report EnvyMyGreen August 6, 2012 11:22 AM BST
In fact, that last over was so impressive he may have already saved his place in the team. Unlucky not to get a wicket there.
Report d13phe August 6, 2012 11:26 AM BST
all too late

showed nothing in the first innings with the ball,

bowls too many bad balls and apart from the odd innings offers nothing with the bat (which is why he is in the side)

his shot in the last innnings when all he had to do was support Prior was ridiculously poor.
Report d13phe August 6, 2012 11:30 AM BST
there you go

bowling lollipops outside off that aren't swinging at just above 80mph

should be sent back to County cricket and replaced by Onions
Report EnvyMyGreen August 6, 2012 11:36 AM BST
Onions Laugh
Report d13phe August 6, 2012 11:38 AM BST
Onions is a far superior bowler to Stuart Broad
Report EnvyMyGreen August 6, 2012 11:41 AM BST
Yeah I'm sure the Saffers are terrified at the prospect of facing him.
Report EnvyMyGreen August 6, 2012 11:43 AM BST
Onions bowls consistent lines and lengths but he doesn't offer much of a threat at this level. Nasser would probably support his inclusion since he's one of those negative bowlers who can bore batsmen out occasionally.
Report kingmax August 6, 2012 11:52 AM BST
still get 1.01 huge value
Report d13phe August 6, 2012 12:00 PM BST
everytime i watch onions he causes the batsmen (at any level) problems

he has 32 test wickets in 9 matches and that tally could have been a lot more had he not been dropped for Sidebottom in favourable conditions and if they held on to catches in the South African Series
Report d13phe August 6, 2012 12:03 PM BST
On a different matter i am not sure the bidding for Test Matches will be so high going forwards given the fact that places like Headingley will have lost money on this test.

its a ridiculous system and it needs to go back to Test Match Grounds taking it in turns.
Report EnvyMyGreen August 6, 2012 12:19 PM BST
Test cricket is on deaths door anyway unfortunately. Pretty devastating to see how few fans bother to follow the West Indies anymore in tests for example. India hardly ever plays it. South Africa, soon to be the No. 1 again, limits themselves to occasional short series.
Report EnvyMyGreen August 6, 2012 12:21 PM BST
As for England, the first venue to fit a giant roof should get all the matches. The weather is so **** here now it's unbelievable.
Report Lix August 6, 2012 12:29 PM BST
India played more tests than anyone last year.
Report EnvyMyGreen August 6, 2012 12:50 PM BST
India played:
14 in 2010
12 in 2011
9 scheduled in 2012

If India did play the most in 2011, it merely demonstrates where test cricket is going.
Report DStyle August 6, 2012 1:27 PM BST
failed to pick our quickets bowler on a slow track at the oval; failed to pick our spinner on a bunsen.

ignored the weather forecast at the oval.
Report DStyle August 6, 2012 1:29 PM BST
i'll tell you why it took them 37 overs before bowling pietersen.

because they were scared of looking like fools for leaving out swann.
Report EnvyMyGreen August 6, 2012 1:36 PM BST
I must admit I did raise an eyebrow when I heard Swann had been left out.
Report kt22 August 6, 2012 2:09 PM BST
Leaving Swann out, without a injury is just bizarre.Especially with Broad bowling like an old mole.Comes across as politics from the outside.
Report nicky27 August 6, 2012 2:57 PM BST
anyone think Smith will declare at tea and have a little look at the top order ?? or will the saffers bat thru till the handshake with an hour to go ?...runs lines are all subject to this decision
Report kingmax August 6, 2012 3:01 PM BST
cant they shake hands now..
Report nicky27 August 6, 2012 3:02 PM BST
nah kinger , crazy I know , but they have to wait till theres an hour to go ( according to icc rules ) , but maybe if both captains decide at tea a result can't be reached they might well shake hands with the umps agreement
Report Blades August 6, 2012 3:05 PM BST
nicky, there are some dangerous bets to be had here.....i think smith will declare...there is no reason not too. It will be around tea.
Report kingmax August 6, 2012 3:05 PM BST
theres no reason to declare.. what do they have to gain.. nothing..
Report nicky27 August 6, 2012 3:06 PM BST
pieterson the leading wicket taker in the series !!! for england ( as well as the highest runscorer ) what price for that ??
Report nicky27 August 6, 2012 3:07 PM BST
have a look at the top order kinger.... going into lords with a psychological advantage
Report Northbouy August 6, 2012 3:58 PM BST
stop everything.....no one bet, we need an update from Morse, is this draw nailed on, is the 1.01 a good bet mate.
Report kingmax August 6, 2012 4:02 PM BST
well there goes any chance of a declaration...
Report kingmax August 6, 2012 4:02 PM BST
will they get 46 overs in?
Report fairfranco August 6, 2012 4:24 PM BST
blades they have no reason to declare, they're 1-0 up.  maybe if they had another 50 or so runs on the board but not requiring around 6 an over.

though it's highly unlikely england would show much interest in it there's too much at stake for a captain not needing a win to declare a total like that.
Report Rider August 6, 2012 4:27 PM BST
tv commentators will always talk in terms of entertainment, but the reality is not much has changed, game over
Report DStyle August 6, 2012 4:56 PM BST
you've got to look at this in the context of the series though rider.

england may not even have a chance to push for victory at lord's because of the summer we're having.

can you realistically turn down a chance for victory?

Odd batting line-up. KP has a right to ask questions.

If we were serious about having a dip, Prior and the little guy should have been 3 and 4.

SA can win this. Credit to the 2 captains. Enthralling stuff.
Report eagles2008 August 6, 2012 6:40 PM BST
My order would have been Cook Pietersen Prior Bell then Strauss and Trott to block it out. Think England have given up on this but Smith deserves all the credit in the world. His toying with England Duminy to tempt them. Reckon when the run rate gets to 9 he will go all out attack and Eng may be able to score some more.

Report DStyle August 6, 2012 7:37 PM BST
open with taylor and pietersen, prior at 3, then bell, cook, strauss, and trott

as inj stated, strauss and trott at 3 and 4 just reeked of indecision and insecurity about how to approach the chase.

or a gross misjudgement of their ability to chase a big total quickly.
