2 teams with flakey batting line ups and 2 decent bowling attacks were tempting me to lay the draw at 2.9. However, thunder storms are predicted during the first 3 days a, the track is apparently very flat and the groundsman reckons the test will last 5 days. This leads me to think that it might be worth backing the draw at around 3s because there should be a decent lay opportunity when the weather intervenes.
The weather forecast does seem to vary a lot depending on which website you look at.
You don't have to be a fan of him, PTTT. Who could be? But, my god, he is on a different planet compared to Imran Tahir, Ashwin or Nathan Beeroherty. You could never turn to any of them and actually expect a wicket when you need it.

big drift on england since close. think prices are about right now as this isn't a normal situation with a side 6 down as england have still got to get out both jayawardenes and matthews

Can still see england winning this, if they don't get a wicket in first ten overs, market could go crazy imo, but i really can't see england not taking 4 wickets on a day 5 pitch within about 40 overs max.

Sri Lanka need to bat to around half an hour before tea to save the match imo. By that time they will probably be around 160 ahead assuming slow scoring rates like today. Currently the draw is 3.55. I believe they need to maintain this partnership for around 45 mins in the morning to get draw down to 2. The next wicket whenever it is see the draw odds multiply by between 2 and 3. As there are only 4 wickets left(2 of them rabbits) the next 2 are both massive wickets such is the folly of using 2 nightwatchmen!

Apparently raining in Colombo and thunder storms forecast. If weather wasn't a factor the draw would be a lot higher. The short draw odds have factored in the weather.

The extraordinary circumstances of England needing to win the match both to retain their No.1 status and to avoid losing the series, and that almost every batsman has got out when he has tried to force the pace on this pitch, is what's kept the Sri Lanka price down. If a run chase ensues and England get into trouble, normally a team would batten down the hatches and try to play out for a draw. England won't do that as they might as well lose 2-0 as 1-0 and will keep going for the runs even if losing wickets. Could end up with a T20 style run chase on a slow turning wicket.

Johnny rant... If we were to win this match by close to ten wickets, there won't be much difference between our run/wkt taken and run/wkt given over the whole winter. Unlike the slaughters we handed out to India and aus in the previous 15 months we have only failed in one area... Batting. And even then only against spin really. Admittedly this is not a small facet of the game in Asia, but you live and learn. Bowling has been absolutely brilliant all winter, though a few late order whacks did cost us dear in galle and Abu dhabi.

STEPTOES YARD 04 Apr 12 10:40 I wasnt saying it will be a draw because england scoring slow, they are doing it right
my point was that draw price will drop for combination of slow scoring and lack of wickets with pitch at present looking ok
fwiw as said yesterday think england will win the test but draw was always coming in from 4 if england didnt lose wicket in last session

The draw was a major player in this game right from day one.The general consensus was that the draw would trade lower and it did so, as its turned out, it won't be a factor in the finish but it quite easily could have been. It provided a relatively safe trade.
The beauty about test matches, is that if you have patience, and can have a bite of foresight into what might occur, it can bring surprisingly good results.

never in doubt once KP started smashing the bowling all over the park on day 3
at one point people were discussing leads of 250+ on first innings then but 185 was more than enough

So Bresnan is now played 11 won 11. I'd never drop him!
But Bresnan hasnt won the 11 matches he has just been lucky to be part of a successful team. Im not saying he didnt contribute to some of them because he did but only got 2 wickets and 5 runs in this one and it probably wouldnt have made any difference if he played in the 4 losing matches this winter as the bowling was strong without him but it was the batting that let them down. Stuart Broad averaged 20 with the ball and 21 with the bat against Sri Lanka therefore he walks back in to the team when fit. In that respect Bresnan is unlucky as well as lucky to play for a successful team.
