Live abd let live. That applies to people whose views you disagree with. Shrieking that someone shames our country is pathetic just because you disagree with how they see things. |

Jackson made a decent point imo. Whilst i wouldn't say she was a deliberate non-trier I think she went into the race scared of winning. She ran negatively and ended up messing it up and coming 2nd. Uncomfortable with the thought of winning rather than not wanting to win. She went through hell previously and by coming 2nd she won't get noticed this time. Having said all that Savinova did run extremely well and for me you could only say it would have been close if Semenya had got her tactics right.

nah Eeternaloptimist, it's pretty fair to say to some bigot that they shame their country. Whether you shriek it or not is irrelevant. I doubt you'd leap to the defence of someone who said black people disgust them so gallantly.

isn't that russian savinova another that served a suspension for a doping violation?
if not why not? |

To suggest Samenya didn't want to win gold is absurd. Have people forgotten she'd done all the tests etc and been very publicly cleared to race?
It was all BEHIND her, and any talk of 'he or she' in the event of winning gold would have been dismissed emphatically with hard facts. She simply messed up her tactics. |

'Hard facts'? She's borderline female/male. That's been proven medically, and there remain plenty who think she has an unfair advantage over 'other' women due to her abnormal makeup. At the very least, her winning would have brought up lots of jokes and sneering comments about her sexuality - far more than you see here.

I hate to say it but during the race I was thinking "she doesn't want this" and I think Jackson made a fair point. Would also love to know the names of those who he said were happy just to get a silver.
This thread also shows that there would still have been an incredible load of shyte stirred up about the he/she debate. I can understand why she wouldn't have wanted to go through all that again. |

I criticised Jackson immediately afterwards (mainly because his punditry is embarrassing) but as I've reflected and understood the point he was trying to make I think it was valid.
I've no idea whether or not she wanted to win, but it's certainly plausible that she feared the consequences of winning the gold. I therefore officially withdraw my withering remarks about Jackson! |

bobbin is absolutely correct

no he isn't
sexuality has nothing to do with gender |

I laid her before the end of the 1st lap, you could tell she was a non-trier and not interested in winning. Jackson made a good point, Johnson is class but people need to stop hanging off his every word
