I don't understand how a horse can rear up and come crashing over ont its back and then is allowed to continue.

In horse trials if a horse falls it has to retire.

A horse can't jump if you keep too tight a hold on it.

The 3-lap race with the Shooting (run with a Gladiators style Handicap system) is very exciting.

I watched the end of this, I really enjoyed it.

Must concentrate on MO now.

After the swimming GB's Samantha Murray is in 3rd place and Mhairi Spence is 9th.

Mhairi won Gold and Samantha won Bronze at the World Championships in May.

Looking forward to the showjumping round coming up shortly.

The commentators are being very critical of the american girl. Can't believe their comments. That horse looked difficult, she was very skilled. A lot of them would have come off that.

Our first girl won't be going till about 4.30.

The horse she'll be riding has already been round...looked a bit of a nutter but she should be ok.

the fencing is not a lottery, the swimming is not a lottery, the running and shooting is not a lottery

and the idea (originally) was to test the riders ability to jump on any horse and escape on it

far from a farce

It does seem rather harsh if you get landed with a horse whose confidence has been shattered by the previous occupant

certainly less of a lottery than the BMX final for instance

So, you can be s*** hot at fencing, swimming, running and shooting. Then get horse who's confidence has been shot to pieces and refuses to jump, so you lose out on a medal. nice.

First clear round from Iryna Khokhlova from Ukraine.

She lost a stirrup before the last . Brilliant ride.

She's now in the lead.

Mhairi Spence up next after this girl.

She rides Coronado's Son. He's very keen. She will do well to settle him.

I'm hopeful of a good round from them.

As I said earlier the horse is a nutter.

She rode him really well but lots of penalty points - 104.

Thinking about it she might have been best to let him run on a bit, as the first rider did on him, rather than fight him.

Favourite (current leader) had a lot better PB, and her average is around 30 seconds superior to most of them trailing her. This is her best event, normally trails going into it. Anything over 1.5 I've taken, just like the mens yesterday the market didn't really know what to do.

She is also pretty hot imo

you have five targets to hit and you have to hit them all... you re set the gun for a single shot and keep shooting til you hit them all, then you can carry on running

3 sets of 5 hits plus 3 runs of 1km

Short run to first shooting range, you have to shoot all 5 targets - you have 90 seconds to do so (in reality, it takes 20-40 seconds to get your 5 targets). They shoot with laser pistols which need re-cocking/loading after each shot. Then run 1km and do another shoot, then run another 1km and do another shoot, then run another km to the end of the race.

Its certainly an advantage to be a good shooter, the top 10 in the world will be good runners and shooters.
