1908, 1948, 2012, it could take a while.

As a proud Brit and fan of most sports, I just don't these last two weeks will be matched.
Wigan v West Brom just won't cut it! I remember feeling similar withdrawal symptoms after the magnificence of the 2005 Ashes. Goodness knows what it will be like on Monday morning. ![]() |

A great games with many fantastic performances.

I was reading a bit on digital spy last night, when we could host it again, ranged from next century, latter half of this century or intriguingly enough 2016 when Rio fails.
By:
Just to add the crowds have been absolutely fantastic. Probably biased but they've been the best and most vocal, but fair, that I can remember from beginning to end.

been brilliant

That's what the Paralympics are for.

Maybe some time in 20-30 years we might be lucky....
The world economy might have collapsed by then. ![]() ![]() |

I share the sentiments of this thread. I never thought i would ever enjoy an olympic games as much in my middle years as those when i was a boy. Some sporting memories just always seem better when you are a boy but i have to say i have watched these olympics with the same boyhood passion and excitement as i watched my first olympics in Moscow aged 10.

America gets the games often enough. Since these games were the first time we were theoretically given the games proper then I think we should have again soon ... And there's always the Irish reaction to Gabby's quotes t'other night. Then again, I want to go to Rio after the experience these two weeks.
By:
Anyone checked Rio's 2016 website out? I had a look the other day, it's horrendous! Hopefully not a precursor!
By:
Don't quote me on it,but apparently they're well behind.

I am not British but i have to applaud the home athletes and their supporters. The way the home people have got behind these olympics reminds me of Argentina hosting the world cup in 78 and the ticker tape reception the home team got when they played.
By:
It'll be a big comedown for me. I don't know if any more so than Beijing but having been sceptical about hosting it it's far exceeded my expectations. Going from watching 10hrs a day of the sporting elite to nothing is quite a change. The best and worst thing about the Olympics is that it's every 4 years

agree, will be like having a massive hangover when normality returns on Monday.
We have to make extended use of the marvelous permanent venues, we have World Athletics Champs in 2017 and surely we can put on an event of similar stature in Aquatics Centre. |
By:
yeah , I agree with the general sentiment here ... when you've you've been this high , it's a long way to fall ... o well , the premier league starts next weekend ....will seem surreal when its all over on monday , like an amazing dream
By:
yeah also agree, also because ive had a bloody good return betting wise

I've loved it but I'm looking forward to getting my life back to normal.
I don't think I could cope with another two weeks like I've just had. Anyway, it's not over yet. We've got another two days ![]() |

i reckon it's odds against we'll get it again this century not that any of us will be around to find out. we've already had it 3 times more than any other city and paris haven't had it for the best part of 100 years, rome over 50, germany 40 and surely it's only a matter of time before africa gets a turn.
yep it will feel like the end of the world on monday. nothing will ever come close to this again. ![]() ![]() |

The opening ceremony seem like months ago now!
I live only 5 minutes walk away from the site, and have watched it grow from ground zero to witnessing GB have the best few hours on the track ever... and world records being set there under lights I can see from my doorstep. Surreal. don't think we'll really be able to appreciate what was happening until the closing ceremony. I'll be very sad, and know I'll have to hide my tears. |
By:
Whenever I hear this in future, I'll have a big lump in my throat. Savage memories.

Hello Sue
![]() yes indeed make the most of it, although I've got some heavy horse trading to do tomorrow lovely stuff though, really want Mo to get gold and some boxers |

During the Barcelona Olympics in 92 I was 12. I remember turning to my mum during the closing ceremony and saying to her that I felt like I had been on holiday for 2 weeks and it was time to go home.
I feel like that again. ![]() It has been stunning. The country has done itself proud. I will remember it forever. What with this and the fantastic jubilee celebrations, it truly reminds me of why I'm proud to be British. The only drawback is that it seems to have plummeted Boris Johnson's price on being the next Conservative leader Scary thing is, if he was, Conservatives winning the next election would be an absolute 1.01 job and you know it. |
By:
Until this, Barcelona had been my favourite games - and probably by some distance. I don't know why, but there felt something very special about it.
By:
sydney was a very good games, many have forgotten that - was on in the middle of the night so many missed it - but not me, ?I took the fortnight off and watched it all
colleagues thought i was mad |
By:
Ah yeah. Sydney was good. I'd just finished University so stayed up all night to watch it and spent all day watching the highlights. I still prefered Barcelona, probably some of it was the innocence of youth and the athletes were my heroes more back then.
By:
both were good and Atlanta in the middle, which was a terrible games, highlighted them
By:
One of the hosts the other night said he hated Atlanta because the public over there was more bothered by the baseball! I mean, they only play 150ish games of baseball per year.
