Lisa Dobriskey has the worst tactical brain of any UK Athlete I have ever seen, including Tom McKean.

To continue doing the same thing in the hope of a different outcome is the definition of lunacy and the sooner we begin to focus on Laura Weightman (who showed maturity beyond her years at these Games) the better.

Ability and racing form are not the same thing and every major championship shows that some of them can run great times but never win a medal while others keep their best for the big occasion. The real scandal of the athletics team is the relays. We never had a realistic chance of an individual sprint medal this time so all of the coaching  effort should have gone in to developing a slick relay squad. What were they doing in Portugal? Bringing in a raw novice for the heat that we should have easily qualified from was insane.

You'd change your minds if you knew she was clean competing against convited drugs cheats.

She never had a hope and has even hinted at that in the media this morning......

Sadly people will label her a bad loser

The Team GB runners , in most events , have not been up to the standard competitively of most other sports where Team GB has competed with overall great success . .  Given historical records , this was not always so , and they are the highlight of the Games for most , does someone need to stand up and be counted ?

With only 2 world records being beaten , and both by exceptional performances which left their rivals gasping for breath , the standard in running has not been exceptional , and the really good athletes have won pulling up . Outside of the 800 metres ( men ) there has not been many exceptional races  . Events where  the competitors could have advanced hard luck stories re not having luck in running etc have been few and far between .

Just reckon the standard of running in these isles has gone backwards .
Report rogerthebutler August 11, 2012 11:44 AM BST
It doesn't matter who she competes against - she cannot or will not learn from her mistakes.

She is an absolute frustration and should be cut from any funding she receives.
Report judorick August 11, 2012 11:51 AM BST
what I don't understand is, when you have 2 finalists in the 1500m, why they did not appear to have a plan to work together

they simply allowed the turkish drugs cheat (cakir served 2 year ban for a violation) to get to the front and stick the anchors on whilst the two brits stayed at the back. 75 seconds for the first lap was jogging and you had to be up the front and the 4 minutes 10 seconds finishing time was a joke

why they did not decide to ensure the race was run in 4:03 or something I don't know. Completely stupid

jodorick

you weren't a fly on the wall in my front room last night were you?

I was screaming at the TV 'Move up FFS!'

It's so basic it's untrue. In a sprint finish - which it was obvious this was going to be - why give yourself two seconds (roughly) more to make up in the final lap? Then, in Dobriskey's case, try and make a move up the inside?

Reminded me of Keiron Fallon on Bosra Sham in the Eclipse, won by Pilsudski!

turkish ex drugs cheat to be precise.

Anyway,Dobrisky should be looking at her own tactical race, rather than the opposition cheating or not(as is the case till proved otherwise).Plus their were 6 others in front of her at the finish apart from the turks!!
If she could not get nearer the front in that crawl of a race, then really she should not be competing at that level.
Totally inept.
Report buddeliea August 11, 2012 12:59 PM BST
ok,i understand what you say,i was just making a point that as far as the authorities are concerned, she has done her time and is now on an equal footing with everyone else.
I do think that anyone caught deliberately taking drugs to enhance their performance should be banned for life, but i firmly believe that people can change(as David Millar seems to have done eg)so can understand why some would be more forgiving.
Report judorick August 11, 2012 1:15 PM BST
I competed in a bodyweight sport where you have to make weight. I fought at 95 kgs which is about 15 kgs lighter than my normal weight was at the time (I was a lean 112kgs normally). It took me 3 to 4 months to get down to weight by running 10 to 12 miles a day, holding an extremely strict diet and trining 6 to 7 hours a day

but I know there are people out there who just took some diuretic that made the piss out 4 or 5 kgs the day before meaning they didn't have to diet and they had the advantage of weighing more when they re-hydrated

they should all be banned for life, no excuses no second chances - be responsible for everything you put in your body
Report posy August 11, 2012 1:39 PM BST
agree with you 100% judorick ...no second chances.

wish our green and pleasant land adopted the same philosophy to those who commit crime...oops that's meant for the politics forum.

Yeah

draw a line in the sand and explain exactly what is acceptable behaviour in 21st century developed countries - cross the line and that's it

people will soon realise and those that don't are no loss
Report Makybe_Diva August 11, 2012 1:48 PM BST
I don't know how a drug cheat dares to show their face again in competition.

They obviously have no shame.
Report shiraz August 11, 2012 1:57 PM BST
Under IOC rules these athletes are allowed to compete, do you think the host nation should have lead by example judorick?
Report judorick August 11, 2012 2:00 PM BST
they wanted to shiraz, the British Olympic Association had a rule that drugs cheats were banned for life from Team GB

but the Court of Arbitration for Sport and WADA decided that it was not legal - that's how Chambers and Millar got in the Games Devil
Report shiraz August 11, 2012 2:09 PM BST
OK, I read an article about Chambers prior to the Olympics and understand that his inclusion was controversial.  Obviously you are close to the competition side of it and you have a strong opinion, hopefully if the BOA maintain that strong stance it may prove beneficial over time.

I don't know much about sports drugs, so perhaps some of you better-informed types can tell me whether or not I'm right here? As I understand it, Dwain Chambers' incredibly physique (even his muscles have muscles!) comes partly from the drugs that he was taking before. Assuming that's so, he's still going to be getting some of the benefit of those drugs, right?  It's not like he's exactly lost much of that bulk, is it?

Am I right in holding that view, or will the drugs he used to take (and assuming he's clean now - which is obviously a big 'if') have ceased to give him much of an advantage now?
Report buddeliea August 11, 2012 2:31 PM BST
Well, the way i look at it is if they are allowed to compete, then they are no longer cheating, otherwise they should not be competing.
Problem we have is that they are allowed to serve a ban and then come back.
Therefore according to the governing body, all athletes that DID cheat are now clean unless proven otherwise.
That makes them ex drug cheats.
Report HonkyJoe August 11, 2012 2:37 PM BST
But if you can get yourself a more powerful body through taking drugs, and you still have something approaching that powerful body a few years later, you could surely be 'clean' but still be getting the benefits of your previous cheating, right?  I appreciate the muscle bulk will start to decrease after you've stopped putting in the drug-assisted workout needed to get that body in the first place, but I'm assuming normal training would be enough to ensure you still had a decent chunk of 'drug-assisted' bulk left to give you an advantage over athletes who have got their body naturally.

you cheat, you're out

we need to take a stand, by letting them back you encourage them because the rewards are massive
Report buddeliea August 11, 2012 2:58 PM BST

Absolutely.  But the BOC tried to ban Chambers and were overruled by the IOC.
