It always amazes me how the officials seem so desperate to get them back as soon as the race is finished...are they made of a precious metal ? ...is there a history of skullduggery regarding these things ? ...is there an underworld black market for them as they can be used as coshes ?

they have to take them back quickly since the women (and some of the guys) used to steal them.
they have to take them back quickly since the women (and some of the guys) can't hold onto them for long before dropping them, amazes me how hopeless they are in this day and age
