How would the lord and Steve Ovett have felt about that ?

Seems a strange bit of programming .

Would not have happened in our day .

Report alun2005 August 7, 2012 7:27 PM BST
Just awful. Brainless scheduling. I give up.
Report asparagus August 7, 2012 7:39 PM BST
Not possible to do the 400/800 double either as per Juantorena.
Report judorick August 7, 2012 7:42 PM BST
this is about the 800/1500 double

not 400/800
Report buddeliea August 7, 2012 8:01 PM BST
sure we always used to have the 1500 towards the end of the games, now Tuesday??
certainly aint right to have both the 800 and 1500 so close to each other
Report tobermory August 7, 2012 8:20 PM BST
yes 800m used to be Day 2-Day 4

1500m used to be Day 6-9

seemed to work ok Plain

4 years to plan everything, yet the biggest event of all the blue riband , as it was 1500 m , same day as 800m, youd though that the brains the olympics lord coe would have noticed.  no commence sense in the world any more.ps  ALUN, what was the link for the old great sporting themes you posted few years back, do you remember?
Report Kelly August 7, 2012 9:51 PM BST
Obviously threw the Algerian people who entered their man in the 800 and the 1500 . He had a medical certificate yesterday to say he was not fit to run in the 800 , next day he wins the 1500 by a long way .

And the fav was carrying a leg .  Surprised someone did not know , dont think that fact was common knowledge  , but dont think there were many histrionics in the betting .

Shows that the only way to bet is on what you see , but liquidity in running not that good .

athletes who can operate at a world class level at both 800 & 1500m seem to be a dying breed....
Report bb66 August 7, 2012 10:15 PM BST
strange programming indeed
Report the bloob August 7, 2012 10:22 PM BST
and yet they rig the scheduling of the swimming so that an individual swimmer can do the heats and final for as many as 8 events within 7 days
Report GT August 7, 2012 10:27 PM BST
Inverdale couldn't wait to get stuck into Lord Snooty............about the music!
Report tobermory August 7, 2012 10:30 PM BST
Yes GT, odd that this forum is the only place i've seen this bizarre scheduling discussed
Report tobermory August 7, 2012 10:31 PM BST
Moscow 1980

1500m Final: Fri Aug 1
Report mrSmurf August 7, 2012 11:05 PM BST
at least they had the sense to keep the 10 & 5k a week apart!
Report mrSmurf August 7, 2012 11:06 PM BST
now that's a race i'm looking forward to - could be a classic and to be honest i'd love lagat to win but he's best days probably behind him
Report alun2005 August 7, 2012 11:12 PM BST
Elisjohn : sorry mate, I don't have the details for that link to hand. That was an absolute belter if I recall correctly.
Report mafeking August 7, 2012 11:27 PM BST
nothing to do with locog i'd imagine. surely the IAAF draw up the schedule
Report alun2005 August 7, 2012 11:30 PM BST
The schedule for the 800/1500 altered, irretrievably for the worse, in 2004
Report buddeliea August 8, 2012 7:51 AM BST
Love to see Coe explain it
Report buddeliea August 8, 2012 7:55 AM BST
I mean,he looks pretty smug about the whole Olympic thing,so would be great for someone to ask him why this has happened with the 2 events he ran in.
To be honest i would not mind at all if someone managed to wipe the smile off his smarmy boat race.
