years ago he was a lone figure building his own bike ,entering all the competitions,going for the hour record ,all from his garden shed - no funding,how chris hoy is a knight and he isnt is crazy - he lead the way,first playing with carbon fibre bikes and wind tunnels,thats why the velodrome was built in manchester as it was near to him in chorley.

sure boardman was a year or 2 before him and bettwer than him ,but then obree caught up
Boardman was first, Obree came along and proved it wasn't a fluke. Boardman went on to become a very decent road racer too don't forget. Boarman showed us how it was done and in style too (lapping the other guy in the final!), no doubt he has been the catalyst
If cycling is ever removed from the olympics then GB are f@@ked.
boardman won a few yellow jerseys ,always winning first prologue of the tour,i think he finnished once or twice ,but for first 3 years he packed in after 5 stages,

There was that great documentary around 20 years ago when they were both going for the world hour record. Boardman was in the lab and the wind tunnel on a Lotus designed bike. Obree was in his kitchen on a bike that included bits from a washing machine

Yeah, and if cycling, athletics, rowing, equestrianism, sailing, canoeing, tennis, triathlon and shooting are all removed we're really jiggered.

sean..Obree was the first to use the "Superman" position
ie. both hands together in the middle

Obree used to ride with his handlebars upside down and hang on to the tips of them. But that got banned. And I think it was him who'd done something to his bike and the officials told him it wasn't with allowed dimensions. When he asked what the dimensions were they said they weren't sure but they were sure his bike wasn't within them!
