Brilliant, looked a bit tired after the cycling but never let up in the running. Big gaps right down the field. What a man. Jonnie might have got silver if he'd taken the penalty end of lap 2 before he lost ground to Gomez. Never mind, great race and two medals.

the bloob - without the penalty the race for silver would have been a cracker
15 seconds stopping and you have to slow down and get going again, plus not running against anyone... impossible to say but irrelevant as he got the penalty and picked up bronze bronze/silver... no big difference! |

Big difference if you backed the Brownlee boys to quinella

Gomez might've slowed down too at the very end. But hey who's worried
|
|
By:
Considering Gomez is nearly 30 and i doubt you can improve at that age, you'd expect the 2 brothers to dominate this for the next few years

They cant object to him grabbing a flag before the finish can they ?
|
|
By:
No.

I was worried about the flag thing too. Actually I wish he had just carried on full speed to the line....those kind of things always make me nervous.

They cant object to him grabbing a flag before the finish can they ? Exactly what i thought at the time, i was like no don't do that, there's probably some busy official (most likely French) who won't like that. |

Apparently Jonny is under one the stands vomiting. That's how to win an Olympic medal.

Whereas Ali just did a BBC interview and looked like he could go and do the whole thing again.

Brownlee Snr ran 29min 07 sec in the 10km run and that was while jogging the last 300m and walking over the finish line.
Quite incredible |
|
By:
That's one second slower than Chris Thompson did on Saturday night in the 10k.
|

I wonder how he would fare if he trained specifically for the 5,000m and 10,000m. Mo Farah won the 10,000m in a time which was about 1min 30sec quicker than what Brownlee just ran but he of course didn't have to swim 1.5km and ride a bike for 40km beforehand.

|
By:
It does make you wonder. However, 90 seconds is a long time when you get to the top echelons of sport.
|
|
By:
and why would he want to switch to 5km? or 10k?
triathlons are very popular these days and he'll dominate for a considerable time... well aslong as no injuries |

brilliant race to watch, great spectacle, fair play to the huge crowds. truely amazing.
