I know this ain't patriotic but I didn't mind Queen Victoria having her crown knocked off. Funny how the guard of honour was reserved for Chris Hoy even though he's not even retiring.

Hope that redresses Darlo's treasonable comment earlier Tongue Out.

I'm not sure. I want to like her but can't. Ever since that documentary I took a dislike and it's got worse. I seriously want to push her over when she gets on a bike. And I hated her interview yesterday. "How dare someone relegate ME." and "I can't wait to never do this stupid sport again." I get the feeling the rest of the team don't like her. For example, the guard of honour thing and I think her nickname Queen Vic is a derogatory one.

Report NonShy.. August 8, 2012 12:20 PM BST
fair enough... i like her and watched documentary

think she fell out of favour after relationship with coach, now fiance.

as i stated in my thread yesterday when backing guo... i think she is mentally fragile at times... v emotional, which isn't always a bad thing but maybe yesterday after she got relegated she struggled to accept it ..... who knows.

done now and she's retired... credit to cycling
Report Darlo Bantam August 8, 2012 12:26 PM BST
She is a credit to cycling, I'll agree there. But she isn't a touch on the likes of Hoy and Wiggings. And Laura Trott potentially could be a fantastic ambassador, she performs with a real smile and style.
Report judorick August 8, 2012 12:29 PM BST
Although it's probably heresy and treason to say it, I don't like the whole British cycling set up or indeed the whole sport in fact. The whole thing reminds of a discussion I had with an American about their military he was saying 'Yeah, we are way the best, no one can touch us' and I was saying 'yes but you spend $900 billion a year and you borrow that money, don't you feel that makes it less than a level playing field?' and he said...

'who cares, we are the best'

and that's what I think the cycling is like - really puts me off all the use of wind tunnels and super-materials
Report NonShy.. August 8, 2012 12:31 PM BST
judorick - you bring up vietnam?
Report Darlo Bantam August 8, 2012 12:31 PM BST
I don't think it is heresy to say it to be honest. I don't agree with you but there's something very formula one about it and less about the actual athletes - which is really what the Olympics is - and more about the science of sport.
Report NonShy.. August 8, 2012 12:34 PM BST
science/technology is part of british engineering though isn't it..... use the best available to you.
