Has there ever been any studies done to say how home advantage plays a part in the medal tally of the host team. Would it add 5%,10%,20% to the expected haul. Just interested as it certainly seems to have had effect on the great start team GB have had so far.

Infostrada included a 20% improvement factor in their model they promoted, I believe.

In addition to the home crowd and extra investment by the taxpayer, lottery etc. GB has the added advantage of the British climate. You only have to see some of the competitors from other countries shivering under quilted track suits to know that some of them have had enough before the competition starts. We win very few medals down the years when the temperature is above 28 degrees. I would estimate that the weather adds 10% to the medal tally. Every other long jump finalist had jumped further than Greg Rutherford in the past but they couldn't get close on a cold London evening.
