Oersonally think it a travesty if ANY footaller EVER won it.
No longer a sport as far as i am concerned, certainly not compared to what we are seeing in London.

Paul Scholes surely?

Matched all of what Giggs has done, plus played at World Cups.

an unbelievably competitive heat. you're gonna have 5 or 6 who would win by a landslide in virtually any other year

Wiggans, unless Murray wins the US Open which would make it interesting (and I still think Wiggans would shade it).

he may well do but there's still a long list of outstanding candidates that would dot up most years. might 3 or 4 double olympic champions

Wiggins has to boss it for me. He has done something that no Brit has ever done before. And then topped it off by winning an Olympic gold on home turf, to pretty much get the ball rolling.

Ennis' achievement is fantastic and in any other year would probably win it. Farah could win it any other year. As could Murray - especially if he wins the US - but he's not overly loved. Pendleton will get a lot of support.

Will be plenty I've missed off there who would be deserving of winning this in any other year.
