the list of contenders is enormous
By:
Not really Ennis walks it.
By:
wiggins is a massive threat
mo could do the double yet too |
By:
Wiggins' achievements are the best, but the papers are really going after Ennis as the iconic Olympic figure.
By:
Great year for a coup, a la Giggs.
By:
wiggins banker.
By:
Jubilee year - the Queen takes it in the free fall parachute.
By:
The more I think about it,the more the coup is on.
With so many to choose from from the Olympics ,there votes are going to be diluted. Setting it up for someone who dont deserve it. |

You had a wee rumble with Tarby crystalhunt? funny juice
By:
athletes could split their vote between Mo and Ennis, especially if he goes double gold
and there are other chances too like ohurougu (outside) wiggins will get all the cycling votes then there is Tom Daley, if he wins gold then watch out (also unlikely but you never know) |
By:
SPOTY is totally meaningless - when it is won by motor racing drivers and horse jumping royals, say no more.
By:
yes it may be meaningless but somoeone is gonna win
By:
it is only meaningless if you dont play the market.
and what a market it is to play! |
By:
Wiggins or Ennis i reckon ...but still 8 days to go so who knows
By:
for example
murrays wins two golds on same day, beats federer 23=21 in the 5th set, wins USO and O2, becomes #1... long shot but that would put him in contention all kinds of perms I just hope its not wiggo as am anti-cycling |
By:
save yr breath. wiggo will p1ss it
By:
wiggo will pish it.
By:
well we don't know that
I won't be voting for him and many others won't either |
By:
who is better?
By:
we don't know yet
By:
If Murray had won Wimbledon and two golds he would have to be close. If Brad W does not win it then it is a disgrace. I am a Jock and followed cycling for many years, watching Robert Miller while 8/9 years old in le tour. Banker, only farah can beat him

By:
Could be the entire shortlist is more deserving than Giggs the year he won it!!

Giggs

I had been wondering how and when the shortlist was drawn up and found this -

Am I the only one who finds the love for Ennis a bit OTT. Fair play to the girl and all that, great performance, but the media coverage and general marketing of her seems to overshadow everything else just a little too much for my liking.
By:
Wiggins far and away the deserving winner. But will the wider public appreciate that?
By:
wiggins banker
That's not a spoonerism about Christopher Biggins is it? |
By:
Someone said to me that Wiggins was absolutely bound to win it.
But Cav won it last year, and after last night I am thinking that Ennis odds look very generous. Don't think Murray is a good bet because people don't feel inclined to vote for him much. No footballer stands a dog's chance and rightly so. |

Wiggo is currently 1.44 on here, Ennis next and then Farrah and Murray. Nobody else in the reconing

Perception and voter motivation are the only things that count for spoty.

for example I just hope its not wiggo as am anti-cycling You're anti cycling?? What has it ever done to you to make you anti cycling? |
By:
yeh,i thought that a bit strange as well.
By:
drug infested technologically based team sport that has no history in my country, bunch of johnny come lately glory supporters imo
By:
What a ridiculous thing to say.
Wiggins should be nailed on IMO. Tour de France and Olympic Gold within weeks of each other. |
By:
Wonder if Rooney will be nominated?

Think its done more than most sports in getting rid of cheats.
Recognised the problem and its a lot cleaner now,few still try it on,but few and far between now. |
By:
I know that was tongue in cheek, but it will be an absolute travesty if any footballer is on the nominated list.

Think winning the races he has this year as well as Olympic gold is far better achievement than winning the Heptathlon.
In fact i know it is. |
