We always believe our people are the best sporting athletes. Put the thing in perspective we are not. We are just staging the Olympics. I am sure they are all doing there best. the chinese have the biggest pool of people to pull from so in a pure numbers game they will have a higer % of gbetter sports people

Again, I am confused by this thread, I didn't think that we were awarded the Olympics so that we could win everything. Doom-mongering after 1 day is senseless. The rowers have done very well in the heats and look like they could exceed expectations. I'm much happier having my share of the £12bn spent on this rather than senseless wars.

Well said Wessex. We are not proporting to be the best in anything, and vwhat will be will be. The xpectations of people on this thread is unreasonable to say the least

Unreasonable born of being generally under-informed I suspect. I tend to find myself being terribly patriotic in sports where I know very little, as I just don't know the form across the field so the default option is to support the Brits regardless of their chances, but try not to fall into the trap of being critical if people who have devoted many years of their life to something merely achieve expectations. In other events where I know more, and events where I have done a little research, I get a much more rounded view and enjoy them more. There are some great events which get little or no coverage by the mainstream British media and with the web it takes little time to research the top competitors, which can enhance watching significantly.
