.. to wring our hands and bow to the mob for forgiveness and take them down for them, as virtue signallling politicial scum come out of the woodwork to show how woke they are by demanding more is done, to show their "virtue".

What a pathetic country we are. It's shameful. The way we are now swayed by hysterical mobs, SJWs and frantic idiocy, run by politicans not fit to tie our shoe laces, it's hard to believe this was a country that was once populated by adults that you could be proud of. Just shameful.

EVERYTHING seems to be overblown these days, there is no calm thought and mature rationality, it's just one hysterical media and social media mob sh1tstorm after another, always something to go mental about. Hysteria and mobs being the key word, and our politicians are normally so spineless they just go which way the wind is blowing, (Boris not bowing to the lynch mob a couple weeks ago aside). It's been going this way for years and it's just getting worse.

I have to agree about your main point but you're not going to win over any centrists by praising the cowardice of our buffoonish PM over the Cummings affair.

he kept Cummings for the banter. Nobody winds up the mob more than he does.

The test for any fair way of behaviour is to apply the same principles to all parties

"Black lives" matter posters become white lives matter.. what would the reaction be? A screaming mob of enraged students calling you a member of the ku klux klan and a nazi

"We need to encourage more BAME candidates into job roles by positive discrimination".. switched around would be, we are only hiring white candidates in cities like Bradford, Leicester with a disproportionally high black demographic. Anyone doing that would probably be arrested or in prison.

It's one rule for one and one for another.. only recently I was discussing this with someone who is against racism yet an OBE holder who proudly announces it in their name when holding discussions on how terrible racism is. She thinks of statues of past figures relating to the empire as disgusting and examples of racism yet has no issues proudly stating she has been given " an order of the British empire" to further her own delusions of grandeur. Most of the WOKE/hard left mob are not just hypocrites but incredibly stupid

"The British empire’s role in ending slavery. Granted, British and other European “businessmen” did internationalise the slave trade, but the practice was invented by African chiefs who had been capturing and selling slaves within the continent and to the Middle East for centuries before the transatlantic trade"

In the US a statue of Christoper Columbus been torn down by a leftist mob.
Do the police there not have guns? Finally a use for them and they miss it. Disappointing.

Over 500 years ago he arrived in the USA. Yet people complain about it now.

When did columbus visit USA please?
By:

The 1492 "voyage of discovery" is, however, hardly all that is
at issue. In 1493 Columbus returned with an invasion force of
seventeen ships, appointed at his own request by the Spanish Crown to
install himself as "viceroy and governor of [the Caribbean islands]
and the mainland" of America, a position he held until
1500. Setting up shop on the large island he called Espa–ola (today
Haiti and the Dominican Republic), he promptly instituted policies of
slavery (encomiendo) and systematic extermination against the native
Taino population. Columbus's programs reduced Taino numbers from as
many as eight million at the outset of his regime to about three
million in 1496. Perhaps 100,000 were left by the time of the
governor's departure. His policies, however, remained, with the
result that by 1514 the Spanish census of the island showed barely
22,000 Indians remaining alive.

sweet Cool

It is entirely likely that upwards of 10,000 Indians were
killed in this fashion alone, on Espa–ola alone, as a matter of
policy, during Columbus's tenure as governor. Las Casas'
Brev’sima relaci—n, among other contemporaneous sources, is also
replete with accounts of Spanish colonists (hidalgos) hanging Tainos
en masse, roasting them on spits or burning them at the stake (often a
dozen or more at a time), hacking their children into pieces to be
used as dog feed
and so forth, all of it to instill in the natives a
"proper attitude of respect" toward their Spanish "superiors."

That's a great idea actually. Can't just waste that flesh.

its where we,re at,split as a country
a year ago Raheem sterling/sancho uk hero in Bulgaria against them 3rd world nut jobs,he goes on social media and newsnight defending BLM, SO SAME PEOPLE TRAWL DOWN the list of every black footballer till they find one that disagrees with BLM and post it all over social media, karl hennery 99.9% of population never heard of him,
George Floyd with in hours usual suspects were putting his back crime sheet up
when Churchill is discussed same people want to  airbrush his back catalogue

Churchill question keeps getting brought up on a yearly basis like a xmas tree, why doesnt the bbc ,nextflix etc do a docu, film about Churchill,s life up to the war and leave that piece out,and give people the full picture about his life, would be a viewing winner to boot

I'd bet everything I've got - and it ain't a small amount - that everyone of these protesters would very quickly abandon their newly found outrage and principals for a tasty cash sum, or a highly paid job.

Anyway, if they are so concerned with humanity why don't they stop wasting their energy on tearing down useless statues and instead devote some time to helping the starving and the poor in countries where the luxury of protests like these is unthinkable. Of course, though, doing the latter ain't glamorous enough.

The OP got his first post dead right, and so did the one who spoke of those proud to accept some traditions of our empire - OBE's etc - whilst being outraged by others. Muddled and selfish thinking.

For some reason - over the top liberalism I suspect - the UK has become the most muddled thinking country in the world. There is an old saying that many in the UK should try to remember: You are never IN a traffic jam. You are PART of a traffic jam. In mother words, stop blaming the rest of society for what is wrong and take a look at what you might not be 100% with!

To illustrate let me go back 10 years or so. I was doing a temporary contract at a big office in London. Every f*cking day one girl would insist on having the air conditioning up so high it was like a sauna. But when she went home in the freezing cold, she would be wearing the same skimpy outfit she'd had on all day and no coat.

She never could see how her attitude and behaviours were at odds with each other - at the expense of the rest of us.

I noted she was very young and note again how these protesters are mostly young, as well. When they start to find out what real life is - money, mortgages, kids, etc, they will soon forget the offence that a bl**dy old statue caused them! They will also find they are not quite as concerned about what goes on in another country's society.
