all i say is get rid of (some) of the statues of a murky past ...but other than that i don't understand half these black lives protests .... I don't see a problem in the UK .
Blacks i know seem happy enough here ...they're on as much of an equal footing as their white peers ...even Blacks from overseas who have lived in multi countries esp the US will tell you that the UK is one for the best places to live as a black man |

What have we got left?
This type of comedy https://youtu.be/xdyDpP2s-og Which is unfunny and just downright cringeworthy But if you don't like it you can bloody well lump it you sexist/racist/agist fascist |
|
By:
comedy is a load of horse sh1t today sonts ... i'm not a fan of racist comedy ...at times the mark was overstepped in the 70s and 80s and cringeworthy ...rightly edited ...but old comedy is often gold
|
|
By:
Comedy is good if its subtle, that's why some of the skits in come fly with me are gold because they portray some real life characters we can all relate to
There's an Ian Foot in every town/city for example "he called me racist did. well that... is anti white" ![]() |
|
By:
"comedians" don't understand subtly, they don't understand comedy
They think they can just say something in a shouty tone and its somehow funny ffs There's no punchline nowadays either, its just boring comedy Mrs Browns Boys was utter c*ap in my opinion as well |

What is the Guardian view on this cultural censorship please?
|

By:
Like another good comedy is league of gentleman
Where the security guard is walking round with management telling how he stops shoplifters only for a load of forks to fall out his sleeve at the end of the skit... the punchline But the whole scene is comedy gold and its completed with the punchline at the end Or the bloke having an heart attack and suffocating his subjects ![]() |
|
By:
We wont see comedy like that now because its dumbed down rubbish which has no purpose to it, no punchlines, no clever dialogue etc
We've had it replaced by the likes of Russell Howard as you say coach, who screams and prances around like an idiot thinking he's "funny". |
|
By:
yep agreed ,not a fan of Howard either
|
|
By:
one thing i have observed with the good liberal folk is ath tthey seem to have a job understanding comedy ,it's as if their brains don't quite get it ..they are just too serious ...so maybe that's why they are offended when confronted with it ...who knows ?
|
|
By:
as usual forum sort of misses the point its not about you finding them funny, if you were black and had to young kids and were watching them getting blacked up,would you be laughing and telling your kids they should be laughing,
would you tell an irish joke in an irish bar |
|
By:
I would 1tp and black could white up and I wouldn't give two flying nothings about it, I'd laugh along to it because it would trigger my "you're in for it" now head switch
Comedy really is subjective but we're told that comedy is bad and this comedy is good, we can no longer have our own minds ffs |
|
By:
i always say it's not for us to judge but the subject matter ...if blacks find it offensive we should not be showing it .... why do we feel the need to offend ?
good comedy doesn't have to do this |
|
By:
there were some real classic bits in Rising Damp with Philip ... but every now and then it would be spoilt by a racist comment ... yes it was Rigsby's ignornace ...but we already knew about him ...he didn't have to keep making the point ...it was if it was to give some of the white audience a cheap laugh to keep them onboard ...a shame as it was a brilliant comedy
|
|
By:
Good comedy finds a way of using subjects but making them likable and relatable, like Precious from CFWM who was a lovable character who'd you'd root for in winning her money back on that noel edmunson bandit
![]() Lucas knew there was a line, but today its racist because he's a white man blacking up to play a "role"... that's what it is its a character role its not supposed to be offensive Bad comedy just resorts to straight up prejudice and no it ain't funny because its obvious why its being done, cheap laughs and to divide |
|
By:
The way Lucas played some of those characters made me like them not hate them
The Ian Foot character was just one of those guys who'd you leave be and want not a lot to do with, he's boring and a point at and s**** type Its the way the character is portrayed |
|
By:
Funny that the most hated characters in that show were the white one's like Ian Foot
That's the point |
|
By:
Little Britain probably offended everyone in it's wake
There is a line that has to be drawn somewhere i guess ... |
