Making diversity compulsory is ruinous to many forms of broadcasting & entertainment.
Diversity on the whole to reflect a nation is fine when it is averaged out (eg, 10% of total programming to have BAME representation). But when you make every single advert, TV show, film, etc include a black person, an Asian person, a woman, an LGBT person, a white person and so on, it becomes ridiculous. Every single sports show on the BBC now has to include a woman, a BAME and/or a disabled pundit or presenter. If I'm interested in the football, say, I don't really care about the disabled equivalent, or the women's version. |
