Cecil Rhodes Statue next on the list for this afternoon

Students at Oxford University have voted in favour of removing the statue of 19th century colonialist Sir Cecil Rhodes from Oriel College.

The result of the non-binding vote at the Oxford Union was 245 votes for the motion and 212 against.

It is not up to a transient student population from 4 years ago what happens to our nation's historical monuments.

Is the Mandela statue on the list? After all he was a terrorist or do we overlook his past?

we have 2 statues where public support for it to go was there but rich and influential people stamped their feet

Very sadly you might be right. it is like that in America. People tend to socialise with either republicans or democrats at a certain level. There is sometimes speculation about how they voted and they are judged for it.

Hopefully like we have seen the planet recover from us we can recover from ourselves. Good manners have no politics, certainly away from internet forums.

I think that is a fairly common thing, not just slavery etc. Loved the one in Glasgow where the South African Embassy was based at the height of apartheid. The council changed the name of the location to Nelson Mandela Square.
