Thousands of Black Lives Matter protesters including singer Liam Payne and actor John Boyega gathered in London today as a show of force against the death of George Floyd in the US.

Huge crowds gathered in Hyde Park this afternoon despite ongoing social distancing rules as many campaigners wore face coverings and held signs with messages such as 'Please, I can't breathe', 'BLM' and 'Colour ≠ Crime'.

The rally comes as global demonstrations gather pace following the death of 46-year-old black man Mr Floyd who died after white police officer Derek Chauvin put his knee on his neck for nine minutes in Minneapolis on May 25.

Today, Star Wars star Boyega told the crowd: 'Black lives have always mattered. We have always been important. We have always meant something. We have always succeeded regardless. And now is the time. I ain't waiting.'

Police were generally keeping in the background of the protest while their helicopters circled above. Banners included 'Enough is Enough', 'Remember Smiley Culture', 'Remember Cherry Groce', and 'UK is not innocent'.

One protester wore a Colin Kaepernick shirt after the black American footballer who started the knee protest in the US. Thousands of demonstrators at times went down on one knee chanting 'George Floyd, George Floyd.'

It comes after UK chief constables joined forces to say they were 'appalled and horrified' by the death and called for 'justice and accountability', while warning those attending protests to do so while maintaining a safe distance.

Separately, anti-racism campaign group Stand Up to Racism is urging Britons to 'take the knee' on their doorsteps at 6pm tonight for a protest against discrimination which is also backing the Black Lives Matter movement.

They do not care about social distancing? Covid vanished?

Why are the police allowing this?

Its not just the protestors who are breaking the lockdown -

From the Torygraph

A fifth of Britons are sticking to lockdown less than they were, with rule-breakers across the country citing Dominic Cummings as the reason they are leaving the house more, a poll has shown.

New data from YouGov shows that 21 per cent of Britons are breaking lockdown more than they were before, with a third of those relaxing their attitude naming Dominic Cummings as the reason.

Mr Cummings drew widespread criticism, including from Tory backbenchers, when he travelled to Durham during the lockdown period to stay on his parents' farm.

He insists he has done nothing wrong and refused to apologise.

But the effect on lockdown compliance worried ministers, and the latest data shows in total 7 per cent of Britons may have used Mr Cummings' actions as their justification for their own breaches of lockdown rules.

Police just being sensible, not wanting to inflame the situation. Wouldn't take much to start a riot, dare say some of the attendants would be only to pleased for this to escalate.
As covid appears to affect the BAME population more, then they really have only themselves to blame if it leads to a spike in London.

So that would be the press and broadcast media reporting fake news as fact then, as two weeks ago everyone was in blissful ignorance of Dominic's travels.

And what kind of idiot expects all people participating in a poll to answer a question like that truthfully.

As long as they don't cause violence the police need to let the protesters demonstrate imv. Plenty of people are desperate for this to turn violent.

So Cummings gets the blame if we get the 2nd wave in winter, wave 2 the flu strikes back

A black kid is killed in Chicago every 14 hours. Nearly always by another black kid.  BLM don’t care. They just seize an opportunity like this to make whiteys ashamed.

I hate the term but there was literally a 'bame' lady, who is in charge of the country's security, the third most powerful political position, delivering a statement in parliament while this protest was happening. Many of them have the paid time off to do it due to the economic policies by another 'bame' person who holds the second most powerful position in office. The most powerful person in office wants to give the opportunity to millions of Hong Kongers to come and live in the UK as their liberty is being threatened by communists.

Plus of course all the virtue signalling yesterday about the inequality of covid 19, the next day 'bame' people are actively and passively encouraged to chuck social distancing out the window, and break the law one would add.

People in the US have every right to be upset with the George Floyd killing imo but one has to question any logic in what that has progressed to here.
