Dads Kidney Function at 29%

Did know a chap whose kidney function went very low and family were expecting the worst,(don't recall exact figure but think it was a single digit. Glad to say he recovered and is still going strong well into his 80s.

From what ive just read kidney failure is 15% and serious problems can come at 25%. Hope he recovers soon.

He's been having trouble with wind recently, like heaving but nothing coming up in the night as well

We think that could be toxins in the blood?

SS I hope he recovers soon hopefully it can be solved by something dietary as can be the case.

He's not had a good 12 months with his health

No idea but I have a  colleague who takes 25 pills a day and dialysis for 12 hrs a night, both his kidneys are in bad shape (he never mentions percentages but they must be low), gets all sorts of infections but the NHS seems to sort him out.....they will do the best they can for him !

He doesn't seem fussed which is barmy

yes , hope he recovers well, my dad had a kidney removed but the other one was fine so was ok, and a chap at work is on dyalisis, goes to hospital about 4 times a week and hes brilliant, so good luck,

Don't think 29 is as bad as it sounds in a lot of cases,my mum got to 94 and she was about 10 for the last 10 years,refused dialysis and took pills for it,also I got dehydrated in hospital a while back and it affected the kidneys but they let me out when they got back up to 32,good hydration helps I think,good luck.

I've told him loads of times Red Bull is utterly useless to your health esp in his health condition

I thought it was just young lads that drank that rubbish as well

Sont a relative of mine has a kidney with less than 20% functionality.

He has a stent fitted each year. Old one removed. Very simple procedure. Can be out the same day. Works a treat.

I had part of my right kidney removed six years ago and the remaining bit now functions at around 35%. The left one takes up the load and the specialist told me that I could lose the rest of the right kidney, have the same amount removed from the left one as I lost from the right, and I'd still be OK. Apparently the kidney is one of the most over-engineered parts of the human body.
