Maitlis seems to model her to camera pieces on Tucker Carlson.
If Labour supporters want a left wing version of Fox News surely they should fund it themselves. |
By:
Peston & Maitlis being ridiculed; & Boulton going apoplectic, what a wonderful couple of days
By:
But what do you want tobermory?
A channel to represent the government of the day with no scrutiny or accountability? |
By:
Cummings's story seemed baloney, but the truth is the level of outrage/hysteria is solely dependant upon the level of media attention a story is given, if it had been the third of 4th story in every bulletin, it's highly likely they'd be no activists outside his home daily and he'd never given a Rose Garden speech.

Emily Catspiss is a Zelda from terrahawks lookylikey , leftys would pump a dead cat.
By:
She's a good journalist and presenter. She's also a good interviewer who's not afraid to exert pressure on politicians for answers to her questions. Just go to Sky News.
Which Newsnight presenter asked a "Teflon" Home Sec loads of times on a single question because that Home Sec did everything but answer a point black question? |
By:
.... not in favour of the BBC being biased against Tories then I must want them to be biased on their behalf ?
![]() |
By:
The thing is I don't have a problem with news programmes being biased, as long as there is no pretence about it. If a broadcaster is independent they can demand Cummings be jailed for all I care. Something funded by tax should not be doing that.
By:
Oh I see tobermory, you have no view as to what might replace whatever it is you don't favour.
By:
By:
I'd like the presenter/interviewer to play the devil's advocate, if necessary, and not pandering or agreeing to any issue raised to make viewing interesting, informative and even educational, but, not confrontational as that would be counterproductive.
By:
She'd fit right in at Sky News.

Kuensberg said:
"“Source says his trip was within guidelines as Cummings went to stay with his parents so they could help with childcare while he and his wife were ill – they insist no breach of lockdown,” Which is merely reporting, very explicitly reporting, what someone else said, not offering her opinion on the matter. Anyone who reads that and thinks it is Kuennsberg's own opinion is mind boggling dense. Though I wouldn't put it past them, past posts in mind. To compare reporting what someone else said with Maitlis expressly offering her notoriously leftie/remainer and biased own opinion and "judging" the issue is a reaching new levels of stupidity even for here. |
By:
Maitlis & Boulton has a certain ring to it
By:
BBC has been at it for year being opposed to Brexit and pro uncontrolled immigration etc.
Cummings helped us get our independence and clearly they are now looking for payback time. No calls for Kinnock and Tahir Ali etc to resign by BBC and they are actual MPs. |
By:
And if anyone thinks that people on here don't know the difference between reporting and offering their own opinion then that person is equally stupid.
By:
At least someone at the BBC has conceded its own team either doesn't know the difference, or is arrogant enough not to care.
By:
"the level of outrage/hysteria is solely dependant upon the level of media attention a story is given, if it had been the third of 4th story in every bulletin."
Exactly. They know exactly what they are doing. EXACTLY what they are doing. They want his scalp, no iffs no butts. To paraphrase Sarah Smith the other day, the remoaner media has been "enjoying" the chance to take down an arch Brexiteer, and damage Boris. No two ways about it. |
By:
I trust the right wingers on here also supported left wingers when they made the same complaint.
By:
"And if anyone thinks that people on here don't know the difference between reporting and offering their own opinion"
Well why don't you read the thread then. |
By:
By:
I have read the thread thank you and as you haven't mentioned anything specific then to read it again would be pointless.
By:
If Cummings survives the pay back from this should be to take away the BBC licence fee.
By:
So sparrow, the bbc finds itself of being guilty of failing to be impartial by its own standards, yet you know better than them in interpreting and applying their own standards. Is that right?
By:
They could commission a YouGov poll on the matter

By:
I think the BBC is just running a little scared at the moment. We had just as much from Paxman in the past without all this hysteria but you would think professional politicians could handle this without a problem. As I said earlier both Labour and Tory politicians have complained of bias in the past few years and for me it's all a bit pathetic. It depends what you want from an interviewer I suppose.
By:
The reason the bias has been accepted is because the majority of MPs were anti-Brexit and anti-the people.
Now that has changed they are been shown up. They should have been disbanded post-Saville. Now they must go. |
By:
They have one of the biggest websites in the world and worldwide coverage. It is not like they could not give it a go being self-funded through advertising etc.
By:
It's flat out delusion to claim her opening monologue was impartial. Especially since they've actually admitted it this time, so that they are guilty of being impartial is irrefutable fact
![]() I've heard the rather hollow argument that there's left and right bias, if everyone is complaining they must be balanced. Yet I've not seen or read absolutely anybody on the guardianista side of things wanting any kind of BBC reform. None. [crickets] |
By:
are you suggesting the uk should tell the world, that taking a 60 mile drive to test your eyes isn't a fact but up for debate,is like debating if drinking Dettol gets rid of covid, if a small minority of absoltue morons wernt arguing black is white, there wouldn't be a story
By:
It's flat out delusion to claim her opening monologue was impartial. Especially since they've actually admitted it this time, so that they are guilty of being impartial is irrefutable fact
She was probably getting fed up of telling us night after night that the government had told them that no one was available to appear. |
By:
what a load of nonsense from the usual suspects
cummings was on the committee that advised the public to stay at home if they had symptoms. He disregarded that advice on multiple occasions and probably broke the law. Johnson won't sack him because he is incompetent and needs cummings hand up his ar5e and possibly because cummings has kompromat on him. Almost whole country knows that Maitlis was correct and just like disciplining Naga Munchetty the BBC once again falls into the trap of appeasing right wing trolls. |
By:
She should simply have referenced the various opinions polls as the source of the monologue.
By:
And it was probably numbnuts Andrew Bridgen who complained after she knocked him off his perch.

Just for the record, Emily @maitlis has not been asked by the BBC to take tonight off - and if I thought she had been, I certainly wouldn’t have agreed to present the show @BBCNewsnight
