Odd Bap,it was a well known soldier ant habitat but many seem to be in hibernation now.
Report Baphornet May 25, 2020 6:43 PM BST
the soldiers are just keeping their powder dry; 5 years or is it 15? is an awful long time Lapsy
Report lapsy pa May 25, 2020 6:50 PM BST
Soldier ants are well known to carry their wounded comrades back to base after raids(courtesy of the newscientist).

They(Soldiers) have that in their favour, red ants ability to fly muddies the water though, maybe they are now as you say starting to swarm, it might be shorter as the varibles are with the masses at the moment.

no point wasting ammo/stings on a non-event, Lapsy flying away at the sense of danger may be the only weapon left in 14 years or so

One or two aardvarks waiting behind the scenes might put the kibosh on both little ant worlds anyway Bap.

i'd love a decent 3rd Party, Lapsy
Report lapsy pa May 25, 2020 7:12 PM BST
lol,i'm sure you would Bap.

Symbiotic relationship with a non predator host might be the way forward, that is if you go it alone.

Hey peckerdunne, did you know ants have no ears?
Report lapsy pa May 25, 2020 7:45 PM BST
A species of fungus can infect ants and consumes their soft tissues, rendering them an ant zombie, some species of ants can recognise infected ants and take them far away from the colony, thus protecting it.
Report Baphornet May 25, 2020 7:47 PM BST
particularly prevalent in the red ant i beleive, Lapsy?
Report peckerdunne May 25, 2020 7:48 PM BST
LaughLaugh Pa nice one

Personally i think it's Southend people should be worried about, and the start of the break up of the union for others to worry about.
Report lapsy pa May 25, 2020 8:00 PM BST
I'm not sure Bap tbh, me ant knowledge has run dry now,not that i knew much anyway.

Peckerdunne, the world has gone on its arse since Feb and going to be years i think before right again, tis a sorry state of affairs if Southend people are worried, all they have is a shiity beach in leigh on sea anyway.

Whole union anti England/Goverment,economy vs citizens, most will put citizens 1st.
