Mr Cummings has clearly made a mockery of lockdown as interpreted by government officials (to the public). Is this the beginning of the end of lockdown as defined by government if their some of their own are unable to "accept" or flout it without showing any remorse or repentance?

Mr Cummings' 250 miles journey to Durham by car with a positive Covid-19 passenger (wife) could have dire consequences to the public eg stopped at a gas station; use public convenience; involved in a road-traffic-incident, etc. And, he'd not shown any remorse either since.

Is that the acceptable face of a representative of government during lockdown?

You didn't need the last two words.

Anything other than this corrupt bunch and he would have been long gone.

Why doesn't he for once come out and try and defend the indefensible himself rather than weaseling around in the background? I suspect many Tories - outside the robots in the cabinet - would happily see the back of him.
Report impossible123 May 24, 2020 2:44 PM BST
He seems to have suddenly lost his voice, and keeping counsel to himself. He's been summoned to Number 10 on a sunday too; 6/4 to remain, and 4/11 to go by 1st June 2020.
Report impossible123 May 24, 2020 3:18 PM BST
Oh dear! Looks likely he'd remain as government advisor; 5/6 to remain or leave from 6/4 and 4/11 respectively. There's clearly a distinction between joe public and a representative (elected or not) of this government where the rules governing lockdown are concerned.

I see Sky are using that lovely red eye photo of Cummings.

Cummings is too arrogant to resign. If Boris can't sack him it's only going to confirm that he can't run the country without this waste of space holding his hand.
Report mafeking May 24, 2020 3:22 PM BST
would surely have been and gone from no 10 within an hour if he was being sacked today
Report impossible123 May 24, 2020 3:29 PM BST
I think if he's not sacked there could be public disobedience concerning the rules of lockdown if a government representative who've clearly and blatantly broken the advice given by government and health officials, and behaved arrogantly since then.

I can see the police having a difficult time trying to interpret the rules to future offenders, and impose a penalty. All they'd need to do is cite "Cummings".

4/7 to stay and 11/10 to go. A clear breach of lockdown rules. What a farce!

If the stories are confirmed then any Tory minister who has supported the lies should also tender their resignations. Why should they be able to be trotted out to further deceive the public?

5/6 is the betting for both now.

Let's get this over and done with so that real important business can be dealt with. If Bojo needs an advisor like Mr Cummings - arrogant and with a me, me, me attitude - to be part of his government so badly someone who's not even elected - then may I suggest Bojo goes too The public gave Bojo an overwhelming majority, not Conservative supporters; the majority of the public obeyed the lockdown despite the government have made a hollicks of preparation and strategy tackling Covid-19 at the outset.
Report impossible123 May 24, 2020 4:27 PM BST
'evens' to stay, and 8/11 to go; Bojo giving daily briefing today.
Report sparrow May 24, 2020 4:30 PM BST
I agree with all you say impossible, but why the pet name "bojo" ? instead of Johnson?
Report morpteh mackem May 24, 2020 4:38 PM BST
good point, corbyn never got jeremy, johnson gets boris as though he's some kind of cuddly bear.

DORIS
Report impossible123 May 24, 2020 4:48 PM BST
Bojo is short for Boris Johnson, and to me is a more suitable name for a clown which he's. As for "chicken" Corbyn I've never respected the man given the his lack of intelligence to be in high office courtesy of the cronies something he's repaid in bucketful.

A choice between Bojo and "chicken" Corbyn as Prime Minister it was a no-brainer.
Report 1st time poster May 24, 2020 4:51 PM BST
LOL that would be the DORIS who employed liam cain the original reallife chicken as an adviser
Report sparrow May 24, 2020 4:52 PM BST
I am not talking about choosing between people as Prime Minister but merely wondering why you won't call him by his proper name. Or did you have pet names for all the Prime Minister's in your lifetime?
Report impossible123 May 24, 2020 4:54 PM BST
Back to 5/6 for either now. Labpur have called for a thorough enquiry, not a sacking. I think Labour do not want to be the hangman, but playing the long game as eventually the position of Mr Cummings will become even more untenable; he'll hang himself (metaphorically and politically) without Labour as the hangman, and will damage Bojo even further more than present.
Report morpteh mackem May 24, 2020 4:55 PM BST
labour dont need to do anything, - give em enough rope.
Report 1st time poster May 24, 2020 4:57 PM BST
if doris and the vegetables back him again, what happens if something else appears in papers tomorrow

I think doris goes down the enquiry, cant answer route,as there looks like been an enquiry anyway

That was a bad performance from Bojo, period. I think he'd wished he was somewhere else. Even the cronyism shown towards Mr Cummings was apparent and his defence for him unconvincing and lacking details.
Report sparrow May 24, 2020 5:52 PM BST
I thought that Johnson also gave a bad performance.
Report differentdrum May 24, 2020 5:53 PM BST
It really is hard to imagine why there where no details.

Rather than sacking him Boris seemed to want to put forward Cummings as the campaign poster boy.

4/5 to go, 10/11 to stay till 1st June.

Boris is in charge not the Media.

We do not operate trial by Media.

The MSM are not judge, jury and executioner.

Plenty of Labourites have broken the guidelines, no MSM on theri case 24/7.

We all know its the MSM and Civil Service trying to stop Brexit.
Report impossible123 May 25, 2020 1:02 PM BST
The past is the past, But, let's not forget this was the lockdown where everyone had had to make sacrifices big time. But, Dominic prat chose to act on his instincts (we all have them some of which completely different to others/some could be insensible and outright naive and stupid) to disobey government and health experts advice and instructions (legal) - not recommendations.

This is not trial by media. This is "trial" by joe public who are incensed by the blatant disregard of others travelling 250 miles to Durham in the same car with his wife with Covid-19 symptoms.
