Cedd (Latin: Cedda, Ceddus; c. 620 – 26 October 664) was an Anglo-Saxon monk and bishop from the Kingdom of Northumbria. He was an evangelist of the Middle Angles and East Saxons in England and a significant participant in the Synod of Whitby, a meeting which resolved important differences within the Church in England. He is venerated in the Catholic Church, Anglicanism, and the Eastern Orthodox Church.

What's changed I wonder.^Surely you can see the difference between a married woman living her husband, who she thought had Covid, to travel across London to have presumably intimate contact with another man from a different household is different from choosing which private house to go to isolate as a household with symptoms. It is interesting the pro-EU types have no common sense interpretation of the guidance.

But you weren't concerned about intimacy then. You simply stated it was unacceptable to leave the house if you're symptomatic. Now you're twisting and trying to re-write your own words trying to defend your favourite multi-millionaire.

We've got a guy who actually sat in on SAGE meetings and then advised the PM of the day whose instruction was categorical - STAY HOME. No ifs or buts. No "use your common sense and interpret the message how you see fit" (you love a deep dive; if you can find a use-your-common-sense-don't-take-this-literally message from the dates concerned I'll send £10 to the charity of your choice; if you can't, then maybe send one to Alder Hey. Deal?) If you get it then you get on with it, don't involve others and risk spreading it.

Just amusing that you yourself start a thread railing against hypocrisy  and fail to comment on this most hypocritical of stances from someone at the very heart of the government message centre and indeed of your own sudden change of heart when it suits.

This place still raises a smile thankfully.

PP, did he leave home once he was was lockdown with symptoms in Durham?

If he did then he will have broken the guidance.

I am also concerned that Hancock was out and about so soon after actually being positive. In Spain you have to wait 14 days after your first negative test before you can leave isolation.

It was always going to be the case that we would be able to substitute Ferguson with Cummings.

It’s one rule for them and another for us. They can carry on enjoying sneaky freedoms because their lives and jobs are important; we can’t because we are mere little people, whose silly work lives can casually be disrupted, whose love lives can be turned upside down, and whose families can be ripped apart. The Cummings affair provides an illuminating insight into the new elitism.

Nope, his home is in London. As we've seen, going to stay in a second home or relatives was not permitted. Once his missus came down with it, the clear instruction was to stay inside for at least 14 days, not get off to a castle 250 miles away.

Again, if you can prove the wriggle room in the instructions at the time then have at it.

Who this guidance is for
This guidance is for people planning to visit second homes or holiday premises during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Essential travel does not include visits to second homes, camp sites, caravan parks or similar, whether for isolation purposes or holidays. People should remain in their primary residence. Not taking these steps puts additional pressure on communities and services that are already at risk.

Read further travel guidance for British citizens travelling abroad and foreign travel advice for each country.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/covid-19-essential-travel-guidance

and yes, it's been like that since before Cummings made his trip. Funny to witness your continued desperate attempts at somehow spinning things around on behalf of your favoured elites that hold you in total contempt.

There is no doubt he is bang to rights, however I do think there is a lot of mock outrage at the same time, Christina Patterson on Sky last night was having a real meltdown, mostly because she was a staunch Remainer and Cummings was the architect of Brexit, so this was a great opportunity when it presented itself to go all in on the man who 'stole their futures', Remainers are queuing up and to take aim to try and bring him down. Brexiteers are nearly all defending him. The pressure is mostly coming from people who voted to stay in the EU. But they wont be honest about that being their main gripe.

Truth is he should resign as Catherine Calderwood did but given the type of character he is and how much he resents journalists I think he will hold on and Boris will not sack him, so will probably survive instead.
By:
darren_discombobulates_sports

What is also very hypocritical was all the journalist congregating outside his home the last few mornings, all scrunched together taking pictures and shouting out questions, the rule still to maintain social distancing, what is that all about.

I think there's a lot of genuine outrage too though. My mum should be in Benidorm with her best friend now whose birthday it is today. Instead, she's just got off the phone to me in tears that her friend is gone and how guilty she feels that she couldn't even go to her funeral.

Stories of families and friends who have sacrificed so much in the recent weeks are common up and down the country. This has got nothing to do with brexit right now. It's about the very top of the government telling the plebs to do one thing while they swan about free as a bird and aren't remotely apologetic when caught out.

Spot on, and that's the message that Johnson will be getting from his MP's who, in turn, are receiving such messages from their constituents.

True. Brexiters are too corrupt in their defence of anything and anyone remotely connected to Brexit. Even if it's elites that that they claim to hate so much. Even if it's elites that disrespect and hold them in contempt at every opportunity.

Defence of what?

The reality is the whole lockdown is a farce and there is no evidence it has saved a single life.

Those who promoted it in the media (Ferguson and Calderwood) break it to have fun.

Cummings neither promoted to destructive policy in the media or appears to have had fun isolating.

Those who cannot tell the difference with their tunnel vison thinking are the sort that like the EU rulebook.

I think a lot of people would actually already be happy with a "I'm sorry" instead of Cummings head. You know, a bit of humility instead of trying to re-write history and propaganda. That this didn't immediately come forward says a lot of what he thinks about the population.

I mean, seriously...Boris as his chief in command should just tell him to apologise. The story is only blowing up because the government and Cummings, instead of acknowledging that it was a mistake and that travel guidance had been broken, are trying to retrospectively re-write the rules, are moaning about leftie media, enemies of the people, remoaners bla bla bla.

Do you really not understand that this total lack of any humility whatsoever is just total contempt for the population and towards those they are meant to serve?
By:
darren_discombobulates_sports

The point I'm making is this, the vast majority of the public do not really care that much that Cummings secretly when to see his child, it's complete hysteria whipped up by our 24 hours mass media circus that gives off the impression that most people are besides themselves with the news, there were untold single dads out there who also went to see their children, my mums next door neighbour went to meet her kids/grandkids in Morrisons car park regularly during lockdown, one random example, and no doubt many people here can tell similar stories.

He was wrong, and given his position should resign, but there is no doubt the frenzy surrounding him is driven by Brexit, there's no chance remainers would be going as bat **** crazy right now if he was a remainer himself, it's pure opportunism, and there's no doubt Brexit MP's are being whipped to support him, all comes down to whether Boris succumbs to the pressure and let's him go, because he wont go himself.
