Coronavirus: Dominic Cummings visited parents' home while he had symptoms

Dominic Cummings travelled hundreds of miles from London to County Durham during the lockdown when he had virus symptoms, the BBC has been told.

A source close to the PM's chief aide confirmed reports he and his wife went to his parents' home to self-isolate.

But the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg said she had been told Mr Cummings did not break government guidance because he and his wife stayed in a separate building.

The story was first reported by the Mirror and Guardian newspapers.

Labour said No 10 needed to provide a "very swift explanation" for Mr Cummings' actions.

"If accurate, the prime minister's chief adviser appears to have breached the lockdown rules. The government's guidance was very clear: stay at home and no non-essential travel," a spokesman said.

"The British people do not expect there to be one rule for them and another rule for Dominic Cummings."

"Precious, precious, precious!" Gollum cried.

"My Precious! O my Precious!"

And with that, even as his eyes were lifted up to gloat on his prize, he stepped too far, toppled, wavered for a moment on the brink, and then with a shriek he fell. Out of the depths came his last wail precious, and he was gone.”

I didnt realise anyone actually obeyed these lockdown rules. More fool them.
Report Ibrahima Sonko May 22, 2020 11:38 PM BST
Their was no lockdown, i have worked more than ever. What is certain is that the people that think their is a lockdown are the people so out of touch with reality and continue to sit at home obeying and look forward to 4.30 every day and some make freds like clockwork full of crap.
Report SontaranStratagem May 22, 2020 11:56 PM BST
The shops are still open, the supermarkets are still open, factories still open, warehouses still open, taxis and buses still running, the pumps are still there for fuel which are full

The only things "locked down" are holidays, pubs/clubs and barbers ffs, it was never a lock down it was an experiment

My brother got furloughed for 2 months, 3 weeks later the company he works for had enough and fetched them all back, wanted them back after 2 weeks

People still buying this c*** are either enjoying the fear porn or are signing on and don't want to go back to the job centre just yet

Fact is everywhere should just open back up ie clubs, bars and barbers etc. Its utterly ridiculous.
Report SontaranStratagem May 22, 2020 11:58 PM BST
The best part about it is now they are using the blame game to try and get out of this mess

Cummings looks like another to go with Ferguson, Witty has a spot on the WHO to get to so don't expect him to be hanging round for much longer either

Johnson surely has to go because he's overseen this absolute mess
Report SontaranStratagem May 23, 2020 12:00 AM BST
Also Hancock, Priti Prati and one or two others as well

Priti wont last long after this is done, in fact most of them in that "cabinet" are there to be fall guys

But isn't it a bit suspicious? they own the media if they didn't want this getting out it wouldn't get out

They want out now hence them breaking all the rules all of a sudden ffs,

I'd wager by this time next year we'll have a totally different "government"
Report geordie1956 May 23, 2020 8:25 AM BST
perhaps the gov't are hoping people rebel against the lockdown which is probably what they now want as they try to get kids back to school; workers to go back & the like ... best way to do it is by giving them a reason such as departmental officials breaking their own rules so why should joe pleb be inconvenienced & continue with restrictions

in any event cummings has to go ... him & johnson are like the evil twins spreading the virus amongst all & sundry ... you couldn't make it up

Mr Cummings told reporters he "behaved reasonably and legally" when asked about the trip from London to Durham.

Asked whether it looked good, he said: "Who cares about good looks? It's a question of doing the right thing. It's not about what you guys think."

Obstinacy from Gollum!

How come it was the right thing for him but the rest of us would be breaking the law?

"Precious, precious, precious!" Gollum cried.

"My Precious! O my Precious!"

And with that, even as his eyes were lifted up to gloat on his prize, he stepped too far, toppled, wavered for a moment on the brink, and then with a shriek he fell. Out of the depths came his last wail precious, and he was gone.”

Seems as if some ministers have full story

Others just cut and paste what Laura told them to.

Questioning doesn't bring same story.

His uncle has died from the virus, did he visit him too?

He's a scumbag that should be hounded out the country, not because he broke some stupid rule, but because he's a proper little rat that shouldn't be anywhere near an elected government

Scum ain't the word for him, and he's acting all tough to the media but how tough would he be in front a of baying mob

So if there's a new outbreak in the Winter we can do what we feel is right, whatever the travel distance.

Drop the children off at the grandparents' house (or on their estate), no problem.

Why would the likes of Cummings , Ferguson et al feel the need to adhere to restrictions when they know full well that the severity of this situation is being overhyped to the extreme ?
Social control was only ever intended to apply to the masses .

I'd like to believe any party would get rid of Gollum in the light of his actions. MILLIONS have/Will lose their jobs having stuck to the rules.

It's a natural reaction to go and find another job when you lose your latest one yet people have sat there staring down the barrel of penury scared S4ITLESS they are about to lose the lot.

Civil disobedience should ensue

I would have expected the first question to be:

Does Mrs Cummings and goings have family closer than 270 miles away Crazy

Gollum didn't want to impose Covid on 'friends' but was content to travel 270 miles and potentially infect 'nieces' aged 17 & 20. WAC Cry

It's a pity Spitting Image finished.
