Plenty of great films on the Best films thread but what about the worst you've seen. Last night an old Clint Eastwood film "The Gauntlet" was shown on i think ITV4, had seen this many years ago but started to watch it again to see if it was as bad as i recall. Wasn't disappointed this film was absolute garbage, in fact i couldn't watch it all as it was so far fetched, ducked out after the house collapsed having had thousands of rounds of bullets put into it, yet not one grazed our hero Clint, couldn't bare to watch another hour of this nonsense so missed all of the coach ride into town to get to court.

One of those films where people were falling over themselves to like, even though it was awful.

I thought the same about Grand Budapest Hotel.

For a real shocker though, try CA$H starring Sean Bean. Truly awful.

The Sixth Sense

Given that the film was pitched as having a great twist, I refuse to believe that anyone can watch this and not call the twist right at the start of the film. It’s so bloody obvious.

Also have to give a huge mention to
Arrival, the biggest load of tripe i've ever seen, managed to watch it all the way through, waiting for something to happen, but it never did! The write up it got in the paper with 5 stars made me watch it but the biggest waster of over 2 hours of my life ever.

The film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 1, 2016, and was released in the United States and Canada by Paramount Pictures on November 11, 2016. It grossed $203 million worldwide and received praise for Adams's performance, Villeneuve's direction, and its exploration of communicating with extraterrestrial intelligence. Considered one of the best films of 2016, Arrival appeared on numerous critics' year-end lists[4] and was selected by the American Film Institute as one of ten "Movies of the Year".[5]

It received eight nominations at the 89th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay, and won for Best Sound Editing. It also received Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress for Adams and Best Original Score for Jóhann Jóhannsson,[6] and was awarded the Ray Bradbury Award for Outstanding Dramatic Presentation and the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in 2017.[7][8] The score by Jóhannsson was nominated for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media at the 60th Grammy Awards

Hate to think how bad the other 7 nominations must have been.

"Left Behind" (2014).  What was Nicolas Cage thinking of?!

I actually like The Gauntlet Sad. You have to remember a lot of Clint's films of the mid-70's had their tongue firmly in their cheek. He started to lean more towards humour and didn't mind taking the mick out of his own screen persona. The action was a bit over the top, but I think it was slightly self-aware.

Everyone to their own hfink, but to me it just totally overdid the shooting scenes, how long did they shoot into the coach, must have gone on for 1/2 hour at least.

It's a good point stewarts. Maybe I should watch it again and re-evaluate, it's been a while since I last watched it (I might also be very Clint biased, esp being a fan of his 60's and early 70's stuff). But my impression has always been that it was not one of Clint's 'serious' efforts, and it was to be taken lightly. The cops lining up like that in the streets to attack the (albeit 'armoured') bus, as you say is not realistic in any sense. But then again, if we didn't have that scene I guess the film would have been called something else, lol.
The film also has a Jerry Fielding score, which is always a bonus, as he did some good work for films in the 70's.

But it's all very subjective, as you say stewarts. As we've seen in the list already, some people like the films that other people seem to hate. Which is all good for discussion of course Happy

On Clint's other films, I used to think The Eiger Sanction was pants, but when I watched it again a few years back, I didn't think it was all that bad. Not one of Clint's great movies by any means, but decent entertainment. I guess it's funny how opinions can change like that.

There are about 450 thousand ffilms that are listed somewhere . I sadly have seen about thirty thousand. Suspension of belief is necessary to view any fiction. Arnold strong is no great actor. But I like his films. Waterworks for sheer scale was turgid. The cost cannot be explained. Money laundering comes to mind. Wolf of wallstreet was used to boost investments of Philippines presidents son. As an example. I personally hate Dr Zhivago . Love the sets. The snow. But it's so boring.

Report SontaranStratagem May 23, 2020 1:09 AM BST
You can add the reboot to Jurrasic Park to the list, watched 20 minutes and nope no more, why do they insist on making it darker and more political ffs?

The reason the first 2 films (with Spielberg running the show to be fair) were so good was because they toned it down and had flawed but lovable characters, Hammond the old git who's heart was in the right place but had no idea what he was getting into being a good example

Oh lets have loads of people running round screaming whilst being attacked by CGI, we don't need to develop the characters we can just tell the audience this is a family and they should care about them because of that

Fack off. Not one ounce of character development in any films today, just thrown together and no charisma or bond between the characters whatsoever
