Home-swab-test-kit will be in the post next week.

Track
The Government wants to track Covid-19 in the population to try to understand the current rate of infection alongside how many people have developed antibodies to the virus.

Mr Hancock said 25,000 people will take part in the first phase of a large-scale testing study, with plans to expand it to up to 300,000 over the next 12 months.

For the study, initial findings from which are expected in early May, all participants will be tested to see if they currently have coronavirus, while adults in 1,000 of the households will provide blood samples to find out what proportion of the population has developed antibodies.

Well, if it'll help, why not?
Report Angoose May 17, 2020 12:47 PM BST
Sarah Hewson from Sky News is already participating in the survey, they ran a piece on it last week.
Someone visited her house and taught the family how to take the samples.

Someone called me and offered a test. I hung up because I thought they were taking the p1ss.
Report ericster May 17, 2020 1:37 PM BST
Maybe someone WAS taking the p1ss. I got an invite through the post.

It took me seven days of phoning the to finally get through and register though. That freephone line is a killer.
Report racing green May 17, 2020 2:43 PM BST
Friend of mine is part of the survey. From weekly scheduled visits over the past three weeks testers have showed up only once. The result of that test was promised within a week. Eleven days on; no test results. Doesn't bode well for an effective track, test and trace strategy.
Report ericster May 17, 2020 2:45 PM BST
Not good is it.
Report ericster May 21, 2020 12:40 PM BST
My test-kit arrived this morning. Now all I have to do is get through on their freephone line to arrange a collection. Might leave it until Sunday, the line's just too busy in the week. It took a while to get through on Sunday.

@skynewssarah

9 days since our first swab tests as part of the @ONS #covid19 infection survey, we’ve since had our second tests and yet still no results from the first ones. Has anyone else had same experience?

Sarah Hewson
@skynewssarah

Been told results are currently taking up to 20 days although positive results are being prioritised. Originally advised they would be back to GP within a week.

Hi Steve, I just called the @IQVIA_UK helpline and was told they were experiencing delays and results could be close to 3 weeks. They go from nurse to lab to @ONS and then to GP with positive results reported first - but no clarity on how fast that is. Have you had next test?

saw a lady getting interviewed in IOW who joined app and got a text to say she,d been in contact with a positive case, their advice to her was to do the same as 70 million have been doing for last 10 weeks, whats the point if you don't get tested,
she said she couldn't think of anyone she,d been with for any length of time to form a contact

Oh dear, what's the point of doing this? I wonder.

Stick with it, the underlying concept is profoundly good.
The poor admin will get better.

I hope so Angoose. I hope SO.

I am SO disappointed:

Okay, so I've got my test-kit.
I tried ringing the freephone courier-line to arrange a collection, don't know why I thought it would any easier than the invitation-registration-line but hey'ho!
Of course their line was busy and yes I'd be in a queue.
Was told that if my call was urgent, I don't know, is it?
I can visit their website @ www whatever, or I can e-mail them @ www similar.
Can you believe that?
If I could go online I wouldn't be phoning. JEEZ!
Report ericster May 22, 2020 10:49 AM BST
I might try again before the week is out but I don't expect to contact them before Sunday, if then. And if I'm unable to get a pick-up, do I contact the covid call centre and tell them "yes, I like to do the test but I'm not able to return it to them" ?
Report ericster May 24, 2020 2:29 PM BST
Collection booked for tomorrow, now all I got to do is not screw up.

Angoose, I've been practicing, it's not easy.
Report ericster May 25, 2020 9:39 AM BST
Well, I did the test, made rather a hash of it I think. It was a rushed affair, don't know why, and I found the experience not a pleasant one. But it's done now and I'm expecting a collection at lunchtime. Would love to have taken part in their survey, made a few observations/suggestions but there you go.

Job done then.
