"working girls" as you put it solved a major problem for the Thai government, before the virus arrived, by earning enough to feed their families. Many of the girls that I've met and talked to since living in Thailand have been dumped by their Thai husbands and the kids (and there are always kids) are being looked after by grandma somewhere in the provinces. As the father is not forced to pay for their children's upkeep, the mother is forced to sell pusssy or drugs to make ends meet, as money is hard to come by legitimately in the provinces. The buddhist mentality is amazing, however, and the girls invariably accept the cards that they're dealt with and get on with life.
I have lived in Thailand for more than 8 years, having come here initially to see a couple of friends who had opened a restaurant here and not going back. As snowynoon says, they are not all hookers, but they are mainly all prostitutes and meeting a foreigner with a few quid is like winning the jackpot to them. I've had it said to me! Moonax, the great thing about picking up one of the girls is that you're not rushed into anything, no wham, bang, thank you maam here. You go to a girly bar, you might have a game of pool with a mate (or one of the girls), have a few drinks and chat to to the girls until one takes your fancy. You fix a price, pay the "bar fine" and leave with the girl. For the rest of the night and the morning she'll treat you like her boyfriend, you almost forget where you picked her up and if you want her to stay longer she will. They call this the land of smiles and you will love the way beautiful women smile when you look at them. |

I used to live in the Far East and I recall in 1979 chatting to an ordinary guy in Chiang Mai who told me that he worked on the Ford production line and came to Thailand every year,bought a girl out of a bar and she then spent his two weeks holiday with him. He said his mates in Dagenham thought he was mad ! A very far sighted guy in my opinion. |

It still happens posy, many of the girls look forward to their "boyfriends" coming to see them every year, it keeps most of them going for the rest of the year. It's sad when the guy doesn't always turn up.
