Am I missing something here?

Some data must be behind others is all I can think.
Report Angoose May 15, 2020 6:26 PM BST
The entire mechanism for measuring the reproductive number is through the analysis of lagging indicators.
As such, it's out of date before you've even finished your "current" calculation.
Report Angoose May 15, 2020 6:28 PM BST
Increasingly, you'll hear more about the prevalence of infection alongside the reproduction number.
A reproduction rate of 1 is not necessarily a bad thing if you have a low prevalence.
Report 1st time poster May 15, 2020 6:30 PM BST
as ive posted elsewhere even worse when you consider 10 million in London about to eradicate it all together ,if you believe what your told, would make some places well over 1
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- May 15, 2020 6:31 PM BST
0.8 is a mid point

It's quoted as between 0.9 and 0.7 and I've seen 1.0 quoted elsewhere in uk as
a higher boundary

R is number of infections that each infected person causes, according to Hancock today

So likely national r will be closer to higher regions than lower ones

its just a joke hancock says children are least in danger of getting virus, but todays data says 5 to 14 years olds topped the charts for getting it at 18%, only 3% of over 70,s,obviously through shielding,
all these people need to stipulate the difference between catching it and dealing with it, even if kids get a mild dose you don't no what it does to the body in future, mild dose is not a green flag to catch it,all sorts of diseases are mild to some kids but serious to others, you don't advocate catching them
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- May 15, 2020 6:43 PM BST
Did Hancock say that today?

Mrs thought he did, I thought he was talking about outcome as in they don't die
when they get it.

Was already tuned out of the guff he was spouting, interesting you heard that.

You're happy that children are missing out on their education? What on earth is there to be pleased about?

Measles is the most infectious virus with a reproductive number of 15.
MERS has a reproductive number of less than 1.
SARS-CoV-2 and influenza have reproductive numbers of between 2 and 3.

I'd have thought kids in Liverpool would be among the most likely to benefit from any education they could get. Not going to stop anyone going to work is it!

The massive hole in your argument is that it's the CMO, CSA and SAGE who are advising on this approach. You know, the actual experts in these areas. It's their judgement that it's the best approach considering all factors.

If its below what they claim its never spreading again is it Crazy

Viruses don't spread like that anyway but if there was something going round it don't to think "I can only infect half his body"... the utter madness of it start to finish

It started off badly, got progressively more insane as went into the middle, and its like a child has written the conclusion to it
