UK coronavirus death toll 'passes 40,000' with more than 8,000 in care homes
Officially there have been 35,044 deaths involving Covid-19 in England and Wales up until May 1 - but projecting that forward for all of UK puts death toll just over 40,000.
The number of deaths in the UK involving coronavirus has passed 40,000, analysis of officials statistics by the PA news agency suggests.
This includes 8,000 deaths in care homes across England and Wales.
The total includes new figures published this morning by the Office for National Statistics.
These figures show that 35,044 deaths involving Covid-19 occurred in England and Wales up to May 1 (and had been registered up to May 9).
The latest figures from the National Records of Scotland, published last week, showed 2,795 deaths involving Covid-19 had been registered in Scotland up to May 3.

Together these figures mean that so far 38,355 deaths have been registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, including suspected cases.
A further 1,678 hospital patients in England who had tested positive for Covid-19 died between May 2 and May 10, according to figures published on Monday by NHS England - which, together with the total figure of 38,355 registered deaths, indicates the overall death toll for the UK is just over 40,000.
The data painted a grim picture in care homes, which have been especially hard hit by the virus.
"Care homes (are) showing the slowest decline, sadly," ONS statistician Nick Stripe told BBC TV.
"For the first time that I can remember, there were more deaths in total in care homes than there were in hospitals in that week."
The figures showed care homes now account for a third of all Covid-19 deaths in England and Wales.
More than 8,300 deaths in care homes have been linked to virus since the epidemic started.
The number of hospital deaths has been falling since the second week of April.

The posts on that thread stands for itself that is not mocking people with mental health issues it's highlighting excuses used against the system.
If you look further I post several examples of a family member of mine with explanations of his behaviour and reasonings.

The UK has suffered the highest coronavirus death rate in the world when excess deaths are taken into account, according to new analysis.
The country has seen 59,537 more deaths than usual since March 20, three days before the lockdown was announced.
This means the virus has directly or indirectly killed 891 people per million, analysis by the Financial Times suggests.
That is a higher death rate than any other country providing detailed data, including Italy and the US.
Italy was the European country hardest hit by the virus in the early stages of the crisis, although the UK and US have subsequently recorded more excess deaths.
Despite the US suffering more than 100,000 deaths, the highest number of fatalities in the world, its excess death rate is still lower than the UK as it has a population of 328 million.
The data used by the Financial Times was from national statistical organisations in 19 countries, including all European countries hard hit by coronavirus.
These were the only countries for which enough information could be found to make proper compar

The country has seen 59,537 more deaths than usual since March 20, three days before the lockdown was announced.
This means the virus has directly or indirectly killed 891 people per million, analysis by the Financial Times suggests.
That is a higher death rate than any other country providing detailed data, including Italy and the US.
Italy was the European country hardest hit by the virus in the early stages of the crisis, although the UK and US have subsequently recorded more excess deaths.
Despite the US suffering more than 100,000 deaths, the highest number of fatalities in the world, its excess death rate is still lower than the UK as it has a population of 328 million.
The data used by the Financial Times was from national statistical organisations in 19 countries, including all European countries hard hit by coronavirus.

The actual number of excess deaths in the UK is the highest in Europe, with only the US recording more globally.
Peru is the only country that has recorded a higher percentage increase in deaths than the UK since the pandemic started.
While countries like China and Russia have suffered many fatalities, the overall death rate is much lower than the UK because of their large populations.

Well said indeed. We do not need graphs or charts to tell us - we have eyes and a degree of intelligence to decipher during our daily routines.

Just had a lamb ask me to move out of way and give him some space in one of our restrooms at work when I asked why he said the pandemic you can imagine his face when I pointed out that if this was real pandemic he would already have been infected because 2 meters in the confined space of a building so not going to save him.

Hugely exaggerated statistics here imo. The thing I don't understand is why the Gov is happy to take the flak for artificially high numbers, you'd think they'd want to minimise the figures.

Anyone who thinks this virus as killed as may as 40000 is backward simpleton

They are Ill to start, with like I say only the backward and thick believe it and they just played right into the governments hands your basic rights have gone the precident as been set

Why are they going ahead with easing restrictions right now? The R rate isn't coming down, the death rates are still as high as they were in Italy and Spain a month ago, there are still far more cases in the community than SAGE predicted 5 weeks ago, the half-baked "track and trace" measures are not ready. Have they just made the decision to ease the lockdown because Johnson, Cummings and the rest have p!issed all over it, and it is basically unworkable now, no matter what the science says?

Of these 59,537 have happened and the rest are estimates over the past 2 weeks

66,000
Of these, just over 63,700 have sadly happened, 2,300 are estimates to bring the official data up to date..
