These campaigns cost the lives of over 87,000 Indian servicemen, while another 34,354 were wounded, and 67,340 became prisoners of war.[3][4] Their valour was recognised with the award of some 4,000 decorations, and 18 members of British Indian Army were awarded the Victoria Cross or the George Cross. Field Marshal Claude Auchinleck, Commander-in-Chief of British Indian Army from 1942, asserted that the British "couldn't have come through both wars (World War I and II) if they hadn't had British Indian Army."[5][6] British Prime Minister Winston Churchill also paid tribute to "The unsurpassed bravery of Indian soldiers and officers."[5]

am in south london and all the neighbours gearing up for  a street party the missus has ordered loads of bunting and union jack flags and  grub ,i am doing my bit by ordering plenty of lagers and a few bottles of spirits a street pish up in the offing ! social distancing of course !

Allah help us all if every possible 'community' isn't publicly embraced and (as usual) disproportionately recognised in the UK commemoration of VE Day. 

I wouldn't mind betting that we'll finally learn that every man who participated in the Normandy Landings actually identified as female, or followed a Peace-Loving Religion, or was doing their bit to support and further same-sex relationships.

We have all the bunting up and will be having an outdoor party with the neighbors on Friday at a sensible distance of course.

hi foxy yes well thanks, and you i hope,  fingers crossed and all that ,seems like the whole road (  26 houses) joining in the  party ,fold away tables and chairs will be out bunting flags  lets hope the sun comes out food booze music, whats not ta!  great news that the french stuff will be on on the next weekend  gives a bit of hope for our racing .

Yes plenty of positive news around racing 3 days at Christmas is to much for me this is torture,Friday sounds like us ,most of our neighbors we just say hello to in the past this has brought us all much closer we all speak to each other now when passing the gardens on our daily walks ,I want it over but if all friends and family come through safely many of us will look back at the experience as something that in some ways improved our lives.

VD day  Celebrated on a regular basis in many parts of the UK ..

last year i bought 16 original end of ww2 union jack flags on sticks from a car boot , they came out of an old village hall so i was told by the seller  been there for donkeys years paid £15 the lot and knocked them out for £150 . happy days

Yeah, but...I'm a remainer leftist (whatever that is). We spent last night printing off union jacks for the kids to colour in and are sitting outside with the neighbours later (if the weather holds). Luckily we've got decent people round here. Sone, bless em, asking my Italian wife if she was ok with it and they weren't like some others y'know. Missus couldn't give a sh1t and got herself a bottle of gin for later. Should be a bit of fun.

One other thing, I've got a book recommendation. Stuart Maconie's latest on the nanny state. Definitely brings back some great memories of growing up and also a reminder of how much this country did in the years after the war. It's an absolute belter.
