Update: After today's official statistics on deaths linked to coronavirus, a cautious estimate of all UK deaths up to today 05 May stands at

53,800

There are lots of numbers flying around today:
- 42,000 all cause excess mortality up to around 20 April is the best ONS measure because it is UK and doesn't rely on recording practices on certificates

- A much more accurate figure than the govt figure of roughly 29,000

53,800 is a cautious update on that to bring it to the present using the pattern of hospital deaths as a guide..
