Can't get that simple arithmetical check with the UK government.

I thought you took every government statistic as gospel ? Or are those just the ones that suit the cause ? Laugh

thanks, i have just seen a bit on the news and been told call centres. they need boots on the ground and local knowledge, environmental health officers would be appropriate, i hope they are not ignored.

Been a lot of discussion around that and claims that a lot of the local expertise no longer exists.
There was a woman who works with contact tracing for STD's on Newsnight just last night explaining how you'll need well trained individuals to perform the work.

@lewis_goodall

Also worth pointing out that ministers have been talking about tests performed rather than people for most of this period, unlike original Downing St tweet. Clearly though, many of the tests sent in the post, won't have been completed yet.

Goodall also picked up on the original Downing Street people tweet rather than tests.

looking at todays figures deaths outside hospital, going to overtake those inside shortly and spending the week manipulating the testing figures has just stopped testing getting into care homes wheres its harder, slower to contact and get the right people tested

Not in one day it's not. They've already admitted that 40k tests were delivered to people, ie no results in today's figures

centralisation gutting capabilities over many decades is one of the problems. surely environmental health officers do similar kind of stuff and there are still a few thousand of them. need to ask all the countries who have done it with success for advice.

1tp did you put up some figures for second homers getting cash from the chancellor? if so have you got a source please?

The ratio of positives should be falling as tests are increasing. You can't know it to the exact decimal point until the tests taken have been analysed.

We knew by 9th march we couldn't do the necessary early community testing and the virus was too established but lockdown took a further 2 weeks from this knowledge.

This isn't going away and whooping and high fives in today's briefing about the fact we can test better now is not papering over the early shambles for me.

Again I will reiterate for me it's not a party thing. I just cannot get away from the early policy.

It wasn't the right science at the right time, it was an ill prepared country and a lax early approach once it was glaringly obvious we had a big problem.

Listening to that today was vomit inducing at times.Perhaps we have a new way of tackling pandemics of only testing once you have had a high loss of life over the peak.

Not my point but you knew that. My point was 100k tests in a day is horseshít

By:

When: 01 May 20 18:37
The positive rate has dropped dramatically in a day because the number of incomplete 'tests' counted as tests has rocketed up to get them over 100k.
By:
Angoose
When: 01 May 20 18:39
So much fudging of testing data, it's tough to get an accurate picture, but here is what I've got.

I track the daily number of positive tests reported along with the number of people reported as having been tested.
Trouble is, they make backdated adjustments to the people number but don't allocate them to the actual day.

Allowing for that, this chart shows the number of positive tests each day along with a percentage of that against the imputed number of people tested on any given day.

it is good that we are going in the right direction but they cant stop dissembling and looking for a headline rather than really getting on top of things.  they need to sort out contact tracing and isolating too. (says a non leftie)

hancocks going to come under more scrutiny ,media going through the figures than he would have by missing out by 10,20.000 and saying we,re making progress ,testing the right people etc,etc

Hancock would be more popular if he'd come out and said we didn't hit the target but we are up to 73k people tested. Nobody would have a problem with that. It's the horseshít and waffle that annoys people.

However if they are counting tests sent out as tests, they are likely counting the people they sent them to as people tested.

Sadly, such duplicitous behaviour is the norm at the heart of this government.
Being open, honest, and transparent are not the qualities required in the cabinet.

Don't see what testing achieves so late in the pandemic . Can understand testing and tracing at the beginning with an unknown virus . But once you know the at risk targets it is a pointless exercise . Who cares how many are or have been infected . It is the deaths that matter and they already know who should be protected and isolate them .

The same groups will be dying no matter how many are tested .

fair point eyeball,i,m not a believer in the test, test, terst theory myself
track and trace as many as you want,if their feeling fit need money, their not going to self isolate because they talked to someone in the street for 15 mins ,2 days ago, if their not fit and well they,ll be in bed or at hospital, as mrs may said nothing has changed, nothig has changed
