The daily figures were, for a brief period, being released between 2pm and 3pm, but that has all changed this week.
We now don't get them until the briefing itself.

No doubt a deliberate ploy, and we'll get the chance to see the Cheshire cat grin on Hancock's face when he announces that he's fudged his hundred thousand tests. Grin

We knew by 9th march we couldn't do the necessary early community testing and the virus was too established but lockdown took a further 2 weeks from this knowledge.

This isn't going away and whooping and high fives in today's briefing about the fact we can test better now is not papering over the early shambles for me.

Again I will reiterate for me it's not a party thing. I just cannot get away from the early policy.

It wasn't the right science at the right time, it was an ill prepared country and a lax early approach once it was glaringly obvious we had a big problem.

Listening to that today was vomit inducing at times.Perhaps we have a new way of tackling pandemics of only testing once you have had a high loss of life over the peak.

The positive rate has dropped dramatically in a day because the number of incomplete 'tests' counted as tests has rocketed up to get them over 100k.
Report Angoose May 1, 2020 6:39 PM BST
So much fudging of testing data, it's tough to get an accurate picture, but here is what I've got.

I track the daily number of positive tests reported along with the number of people reported as having been tested.
Trouble is, they make backdated adjustments to the people number but don't allocate them to the actual day.

Allowing for that, this chart shows the number of positive tests each day along with a percentage of that against the imputed number of people tested on any given day.
