Mate of mine owns a small ski holiday company, their policy was to get customers to claim from insurance then if no joy accept vouchers.he says the amount of abuse he’s had has been unbelievable, one customer (a repeat customer over several years) emailed to say he hoped the whole of his family got coronavirus because he couldn’t get a full refund.its a generalisation but the holidays he sells are higher end so anyone booking can’t be short of a few quid.

if we all have to take a hit during these times, then why can't the airlines take a hit instead, multi million pound organisations, why should individuals a lot poorer take the hit, they are not charities, if they've paid for a holiday and it was cancelled they are fully entitled to a refund, what's the point in offering a voucher right now lol, they're as useful as chocolate teapots atm.

What about travel insurance they don't cover this virus so who is going to risk going on holiday?
|
|
By:
Has flights cancelled on BA, used their website and clicked on the Refund Flights button, filled in the details on the next couple of screens and hit send only to realise I'd requested Future Travel Vouchers.
To use the vouchers you have to book by phone using the same number that you have to ring about cancelled flights, tried every day and eventually get the message 'we can't take your call at the moment please ring back' and then the line goes dead. Taken it up with my credit card company and raised a claim back with them. Got another flight on 1 June, BA contacted me the other day to see if I wanted to rearrange it. I'm waiting for them to cancel it and will then look for a refund. |

I had a return flight booked on March 20 and a week holiday. The first flight took place but the return was cancelled as eventually was the holiday. My insurer paid back the first flight fare and the full cost of the holiday but told me that the airline (easyjet) were liable for the cancelled return flight. I have also taken a voucher but once I looked at it is only valid until April 30 2021, so one year. It might not be possible for me to fly during that time to the destination I wanted so then what? There was no mention of a date limit until I had accepted the voucher option. It was only £25 so I am not that bothered but it is the principle that concerns me.

I am trying to rebook a holiday for October
![]() I was supposed to be in Malaysia as I write. Booked with BA and they refunded my deposit immediately, fair play. I will pay a deposit now and am prepared to lose that. The World we shall be returning to is uncertain. Will an Airline Industry be able to support cheap air travel for the masses? I am not so sure. I just want to get as much foreign travel in as I can. I fear it will be for just the rich and privileged as I believe cars in big city centres will be at some time. |

By:
Btw cheeky bstards from credit card company want me to chase companies fir other refunds of tickets and flights!

they give you a voucher to spend by a certain date and i wouldnt be surprised if they upped prices for future flights and package holidays

The way of travelling on planes will return to normal. there is no other option
These idiot politicians have no scientific backing to support this 2 metres bull5hit yet want to destroy entire industries cos they fear being blamed for virus deaths. The only fear they have is not getting elected You have vast swathes of people working in foreign countries now and any attempt to make flying a thing for the rich will cause an uprising ffs |
|
By:
I think you are wrong RC
We shall see what happens. There may be a new normal. There will be a lot of capacity cut back. Airlines are losing billions. Many Airlines will go down imho and there will be a period of consolidation. Look at O’Dreary. Redundancies and straight in no conferring with a 20% pay cut. If airlines have monopoly routes they will exploit political them. Don’t get me wrong there will be so mNy who do want to travel in. Growing world but I am saying it might take some time. I am wondering how many airlines will be nationalised because there is little appetite to bail out billionaires. Other billionaires will also come in to feast on the carcasses. Bad luck Dickie Branston. Nearly sold 30% of Virgin to Delta but he could not let go. I am not saying they will make flying for the rich but let’s see how many people can afford electric cars in London |

What about holiday companies still taking payment for holidays they know won’t take place?
It’s not the way I book my holidays but I have a couple of family members who still book complete packages with holiday companies, pay a deposit and then full payment 8 weeks prior to departure, final payment automatically debited against their credit card when the company knows it won’t be possible to fulfil the contract for holidays in June early July, apparently you can’t request your credit card refuses payment as you have signed a contract. Isn’t this just a pyramid scheme taking money off those further down the line in order to repay those who’s holidays where meant to take place this week. |

Wispa, of course I was oversimplifying in the OP. The whole thing is a right mess.
My sympathy goes to those whose jobs are in danger first rather than those deprived of a holiday. As I think someone else said many people think they are entitled to cheap foreign travel, flying hundreds of miles for a pint of tetley and a full English. If a vaccine does prove successful though it will be back to ‘normal’. |
|
By:
they are not moaning about being deprived of their holiday ,they are moaning that they are being deprived of their money and mr ryanair is soon on tv moaning when he thinks he has been wronged

RC, "My sympathy goes to those whose jobs are in danger first rather than those deprived of a holiday." FFS join the dots, how many work/around the holiday industry. What stupid thread.

Research it yourself, when you've done with those employed in the UK, don't forget transport to airports etc then the airports themselves, Gatwick not reopening for years, and so on Then start on the countries that rely on tourists inc brits. OH just join up the dot's, or is that too hard for you?.
|
|
By:
Your starter for 10................
21,000 people Gatwick and businesses within the airport employ roughly 21,000 people. Of this number, only 2,500 work for Gatwick Airport itself. Gatwick estimates that businesses dependent on the airport employ another 10,000 people. The airport's operation contributes approximately £2 billion to London and the surrounding economy. |
|
By:
This report confirms that Gatwick’s tourism footprint extends far wider
than the capital city. Using International Passenger Survey (IPS) evidence on the character of trips taken by overseas visitors who enter the UK via Gatwick, we have established a detailed spatial breakdown of the Airport’s tourism ‘footprint’. This reveals that in 2017, while just over half (56 percent) of overseas visitors’ overnight stays were within London, a further quarter (24 percent) were spread across the South East, including the Coast to Capital LEP (12 percent) and the Gatwick Diamond area (4 percent). The remaining fifth of overnight stays were spread across the country, reflecting the fact that Gatwick’s overseas visitors reached every region and nation of the UK. As a result of Gatwick-facilitated overseas visitors, some 93,300 jobs were supported across the UK in 2017, while £4.7 billion was added to national GDP. Moreover, the transactions, profits and wages paid due to this activity gave rise to an estimated £1.2 billion in revenues for the Exchequer. Roughly three-quarters of this economic impact was concentrated in London and the South East, with the local areas around the Airport accruing notable economic benefits. Sorry I'm off, my talking to morons daily allocation has been fully used up on you. ![]() |

By:
Sorry but just to continue with the moaning minnies and whining whinnies some... I will come back to this
25-30 million people may lose their tourism related jobs. It is ashley an actual shocker. Many Airline staff will be losing jobs very soon. Airline related jobs will also go in big numbers. We shall see how airport nimbys cope with this should they lose custom and trade because so many jobs have gone in their area. This is bad. I can understand why people cop the a*rse when they lose money but part of the holiday is to structure your payments so you don't get your troosers taken down. Ordinarily this will involve paying with a credit card but in economic climate we were in even before the covids it would be remiss to pay a large chunk for your holiday months before you went. So many airlines going down the writing was on the wall. I think the tourism industry will take many months to recover their businesses if they can. Returning o profit is another matter. Everything is geared up for numbers and margins. We might not see those numbers for a couple of years if they ever fully recover. I lost two flights and a hotel for the rubgy in Rome in March but being alive is one recompense that helps to swallow the blow. I am more annoyed at the Government for not calling this rather than the airline or hotels who have my money and now I have to try recoup it via insurance. Like I said I am hoping to go to Malaysia in October and am prepared to lose my deposit if it has all gone bandy. That is the chance you take. Sorry to carry on the moaning. I notice Barcelona and Venice were two cities where the locals complained about the number of tourists quite rightly imho but I wonder if they are eager to get them back now? |
