Hysterical identitarians are obsessed with gender, skin colour [and] sexuality
|
|
By:
exactly, his entire posts centers around how people with certain genders, skin colours and sexuality dare even be mentioned, have certain jobs or characteristics.

Edy, the objection to identitarian drama isn't the presence of characters of varying genders, skin colours or sexuality. It's the way their actions, abilities and motivations are divorced from their characters. You just end up with an artificial mess of contradictions.
The female sidekick is sharper and "cooler" than van der Valk, the implication being that he's only her boss on account of being white and male. Yet van der Valk's boss is herself female. So why hasn't the sidekick been promoted too? There's evidently no prejudice in this police force. The programme makers want to portray women both as powerful figures able to rise to the top and as downtrodden figures held back by the patriarchy. It just looks like characters being shoehorned into roles for the sake of making didactic points rather than telling a story. |

By:
Maybe she's only sharper and cooler because alun wants her to be so he has more to be hysterical about.
|
|
By:
Oh my, hysterical identitarians don't even see themselves as hysterical identitarians! Hillarious!
|
|
By:
I think you and alun are just looking for different things from their drama, depending on what you grew up with.
He wants a plausible story. You're looking for education. |
|
By:
I'm not looking for education in drama, and I also don't heavily overthink drama and potential movitations of the creators. I'm just not a Hysterical Harry.

Excellent stuff as ever from Alun2005
![]() I've got this recorded but after reading this most informative thread, I think I'll free up some much needed space on the hard drive. Then again, I'm wrestling with idea of giving it a blast, just so I'll be able to contribute to the thread, but there'll undoubtedly be a mental price to pay with raised blood pressure...and inevitable tedium. Not to mention a forum ban if I post my observations after downing a few - I'll pass ![]() |

When tv or films are agenda driven they insult intelligence and lose credibility.
It can often be so obvious it’s painful. A classic example is Hollywood’s boundless attempts to portray America as great and the rest of the world evil. It becomes tiresome. |
|
By:
dunno, people seem to have bought a lot into how great and good America is

|
By:
dont worry .. the good old bbc just mentioned the name Stephen Lawrence as per every week

Had it sky+. Will give it a swerve.

Apparently if you point out the origins of these narratives you are an identitarian or you have nasty prejudices. I guess it is easier to virtue signal than it is to actually do some research.

Meant to quote the 7:13 PM BST there

The whole thing about tv dramas is that the characters should be sympathetic, in the sense that the viewer can identify with them in some way. As the world changes so does tv drama.
But then again there’s always been good and bad. |
|
By:
'Drama' used to mirror society, now it tries to shape it. If it's on BBC I assume it will be a tale woven through with copious virtue signalling, so I avoid.
