Wont be the money to pay much of a pension. More likely it will rise up to 75 and be frozen for a few years.
Report sixtwosix April 25, 2020 6:24 PM BST
I recently took my deferred pension of 30 years early(I have another active one and am still working) .
I can at least look after my wife and son with this , I am very glad I choose to do it.
Report casemoney April 25, 2020 6:28 PM BST
Young and fit Less likely to be affected by the Virus , you are looking at About 4 % of the population Lets say 2.5  million ?

Unemployment may well far exceed that ,Percentage wise 60 plus more likely to be Sick / Hospitalized  than younger people

Going forward as people age More and more Jobs freed up ,Of course as said that is if a Pension can be paid ??

It's a pity there are more part-time opportunities out there. ( Pity there aren't more FULL-time jobs out there actually ). I'm recently retired and wasn't  sorry to call it a day but I didn't want  to stop completely. I wouldn't have  minded a few hours, ten or twelve perhaps, just to keep active but there you go.

pension will go up to 68  soon to part pay for this current holiday
Report casemoney April 25, 2020 6:47 PM BST
1/10  18-24 are unemployed Coach Payments to them would far outweigh the Pension payments ,Spec with them in the System paying Tax or Ni
,
18-24 Very unlikely to become seriously ill as opposed to 60-66 .... so a saving to the NHS there if the 60> mob follow some Islotaion

Rules masks etc ,Honestly makes sense

ericster, Always charities looking for volunteers. Keep yourself busy physically and mentally plus have the pleasure in knowing you are helping folks in need.

Yep, it's sad, tragic even, but what's a person to do?
I don't go anywhere.
I don't know anybody.
Don't DO.... anything.
And that's not a retirement issue.
That's me.

I'm sitting here waiting for night-time to come so I can go to bed and sleep for a while.
That's it, my life.

polipunt, I have a problem with people. I'm just no good with them.

Report politicspunter April 26, 2020 10:03 AM BST
ericster, what type of work did you do?
Report ericster April 26, 2020 10:11 AM BST
Warehouse work, some manual-handling, forklifting, Night-shift.
tbh, I cream-cracked.
Wouldn't mind something not too demanding mentally OR physically.
Having a few books to read would be a big help.
I wouldn't mind getting involved with those tree-huggers who go picking up litter out in the sticks. Just give me a hedgerow and a bin-liner.
Report politicspunter April 26, 2020 10:21 AM BST
Well, off the top of my head what about...

1. Joining a local political party- always looking for folks just to go round sticking leaflets through doors.
2. Join a local chess club or similar, new members always welcome. Don't have to interact too much, just sit down and play your game.
3. Are you inland or near the coast? Local organisations always looking for folks to do beach cleans, tidying up in local parks and walks.
4. Join the local library- do some research on your local area history/ research your ancestry and track down parish records, visit places of birth.
Report ericster April 26, 2020 10:36 AM BST
1. Don't like being in streets and letter-boxes not for me.
2. Haven't got the mindset for Chess.
3. I'm in the midlands, would love the beach-cleaning thing. Now THAT would be great.
4. I am a member of my local library but they'ye closed. Can't go online because I got a problem with my screen. Don't go there.
Report politicspunter April 26, 2020 10:50 AM BST
Ok, Have you got a local reservoir, fishing beat on local rivers? It might not be the beach exactly but just going along the riverbank/ round the reservoir picking up rubbish gets you out in the open air, helps nature and the environment.

Must be plenty of canals in your area that need volunteers to tidy up also I would guess.

There is a river and old gravel-pits running through the valley that my town is situated by but they're nature reserves. Buzzing with twitchers, there's a neatly laid out network of gravel paths and woe betide anybody who offends.

I was watching breakfast television a few weeks ago and this fella was on whose pastime was recording, visiting and taking photographs of all the art deco cinemas remaining in the UK. Most of them are sadly now bingo halls or amusement arcades etc but a few have retained their former glory. I was interested in it because my father was a movie fan from the golden age of Hollywood. He had incredible knowledge of the stars and production companies. He passed away in 1990 but just a few years later I was on holiday in Mallorca where I met two sisters, one from Scotland who had just retired from Rolls Royce and her much older sister who was from America. It turned out the older sister had worked in the head offices of MGM and had met many of the stars personally, dad could have spent hours talking to her. Anyway, it just seemed an interesting thing to do in art deco picture land because he never knew what he was going to find.

I don't  "THINK " I'm taking the p GAZO.

" See a doctor " ? I've thought about that but don't know how to approach it.
What does a person SAY to a doctor?
And anyway, all that's on hold right now because of this covid business.
" Doctor, I'm fed up".
" Ohhh really".Cry
