Has he ever been funny?

I'd genuinely laugh more if I was diagnosed with Covid19

Just think back to the 80s when Lenny and his wife went to Africa to see the famine
That's all the poor fcukers needed to see.
Lenny and his fat wife showing them what it's like to have 5 meals a day

Hardly anybody is funny anymore, scared to death of upsetting somebody
The only way you get away with stuff nowadays is via animation
For some reason you can say what you want if you hide behind a cartoon character

Keith Lemon (PRICK)
Miranda,(an unfunny Bernard Breslaw in drag)
Mrs Browns Boys,( as funny as being injected with Covid 19 and Aids)
Frankie Boyle (a rude coward, who slags off everyone apart from muslim nonces)
Lenny Henry, ( was good as a black Frank Spencer in the 70s) and still living off it.

The comedians of the 7os and 80s were funny, it wasn't alternative comedy,
alternative comedy does what it says on the tin,
Its alternative to comedy..NOT ****G FUNNY

The UK TV Comedy of the late 70s/early 80s - excluding certain sitcoms - does not hold up well on the whole looking back at it, so Lenny Henry being successful at that time is hardly the biggest mystery.

Little&Large ? Cannon&Ball ?

Then you had the people who were 'zany' but not actually particularly funny, like Kenny Everett, Freddie Starr.....

The Two Ronnies were a level above all that and a lot of their stuff is still worth a look.

Awful is right tober, I was a teenager when the young ones kicked off, it was basically the same as punk to the rubbish music of the 70s.

I think northern comic are more successful than southern ones not because they're funnier but maybe because of their accents make it seem funnier?

Though Ben Elton is awful. I think that's middle class humour in general for you though.

Northern comics tend to relate better to working class people with their material and thus create a larger audience.

Mrs Browns Boys is horrendous. The fact the cast laugh at their own jokes sums it up.

As funny as an aids diagnosis

Yes, its so original a man dressing up as a woman,
at least, Danny La rue, Dick Emery and Stanley Baxter were funny..

The worst "comedy" ever foisted on my eyes was that steaming barrel of 5hite "My Hero" starring Ardal O'Hanlon which somehow got funded by the BBC for 6 series

I'd find a Harold Shipman documentary funnier

I don't know about my hero, but
Mrs Browns Boys is on par with
The Grenfell tower enquiry, when it comes to comedy
