For those who are struggling to work it out, the drive through tests are invitation only, and the NHS people who are desperate to return to work are, um, preferring to stay self isolating. Obviously they can't invite more people than possible tests at each drive through. Since the NHS people haven't been turning up in the numbers expected, the invitations are being expanded out to other public service employees.

Cider the situation is Rediculous , If and when these tests reach 100,000 A day, why are the Kits not distributed to GP surgeries , You turn up with ID , test is numbered with your details Done and sent off ,at the end of the day Like blood tests ETC , how many testing labs are there that tests can be sent to ?? AS for safety the Testers wear full PPE etc , There are hundreds attending Tescos and Aldi with a few hundred yards of My surgery.

AS stated a testing Center at IKEA , how many are attending they must be standing around doing Sweet F.A for most of the day ??

under 24,000 yesterday
of the 22,000 the day before only 13,000 people tested  due to people having to be tested twice,

so handjobs 100,000 tests might be way below 100,000 people as must people are expecting, so we,ve got

capacity 48,000
tests 24,000

people tested who no,s

Why are you in some kind of daily perma seeth about a target that is still a week away, and won't affect you in any way whether it's reached or not.

a week  away including fri, sat, sun,i,m interested in the stroke that's going to be played,

9,000 tests taken by nhs pro,s on nhs workers not working yet their sending them to peoples houses I,d assume only one test kit,how many 1000,s are going to be wasted, or if it counts towards the target are they bothered

People talk about tests like they are a scratchcard, they are a complicated thing to do, both to ensure the tests are accurate and keeping everyone safe. There's no rule book for this it's largely trial and error. Included in the 100K were the five pillars and tests have only been reported from two of the pillars to date.

Are you blaming Matt Hancock for no reliable antibody test being found so far? Or you think he shouldn't have planned for the possibility?
By:

When: 23 Apr 20 16:30
Hancock attempted to retaliate against criticism when under pressure by promising 100,000 tests a day by the end of April ... if there were doubts then he should have been more realistic ... we know politicians say things they don't mean but it was extremely rash on his part and if we fall short then he must accept responsibility for any failure. I'm not so sure the tests are complicated in themselves but even the organisational aspect of arranging them has been found wanting

Matt will not stop telling lies, that is the problem,Can't understand why they will not tell the true facts and say "we are doing our best"but telling lies every day is an insult to the good people of the country"if they don't know just say "we don't know"

David Nabarro was just being interviewed on Sky funnily enough, and he said the test is complicated.

Some people are really struggling to determine the difference between a target and a commitment. It was a target as it was far from guaranteed, as there were unknowns at that point. I'm assuming it looked more likely the world would have found a reliable antibody test by now. iirc Whitty said it was close yesterday, but no chickens are being counted.

Matt Hancock might come to regret setting such a challenging target for sure. But we are not at that point yet, obviously.

The tests are indeed not straightforward, but no so difficult that Germany is able to comfortably perform more than 100k per day and has been doing so for some time.

And don't forget that Hancock stood up in parliament on 23 January and announced that "the UK is one of the first countries to have developed a world-leading test for the new coronavirus."

That was 92 days ago.

As we all know, Germany started off with a huge testing infrastructure already in place from it's day to day way of operating. UK are good at this stuff I believe, but in comparison a cottage industry, much smaller in scale. It's the antibody test that is proving a challenge for all countries.
By:

When: 23 Apr 20 17:04
Indeed, hence the £20m the UK paid to China for antibody tests that don't work.

When Hancock launched his target, he was invited by the media to state whether the 100k figure included antibody tests.
He stated that the 100k would be his number, regardless of whether a reliable antibody test was available by his self-imposed date.

He's now on camera at the daily briefing.

He's not missed the target yet tho! Surely it was worth the gamble at the time. The alternative was to turn them down and go to another country?

I agree that it was a gamble worth taking.
Would have been nice to get some form of guarantee on them actually doing what they were supposed to do though.

I'm all for constructive criticism, but it needs to be balanced, and in the real world in my view. It's in everyone's interest that all of those directly involved in tackling the virus do as well as possible, not just icu doctors and nurses. The online sniping for snipings sake is quite tedious. Khan's mismanagement of tfl has been worse than anything the government has been involved with, in my opinion.
