Of course but we're in the realms of reality. If the government is going to hand out billions of pounds to businesses, a few checks and balances are in order. Given all the grants, deferrals etc the vast majority of businesses should be in a position to cover 80% of their monthly payroll.

I might be going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing critics of the guy (or the Tories) on here didn't get a first from Oxford or a Scholarship to Stanford.
In fact I'd imagine spellign Scholarship would be a bit of a test...

I cannot believe he's getting stick from the majority of posters here so far unless these were anti-Tory. I thought he was fantastic eg concise, realistic, competent, knowledgeable, confident and personable. He also tells it how it is; fielded every question with clear and straight answer as if it was his own. He also comes across humble not flash or dismissive of questioners.
The man despite only 39 yrs old is one for the future, and certainly a credit to the country.

If you listen to what he was saying I think there may well be a delay to some Furlough payments
At least he said it was not all signed and delivered ...
Obviously avoiding Fraud the Main issue , could well be a few dodgy attempted hit and run claims ..
As soon as Furlough was announced I would Imagine Ching! Ching ! rang in many ears ...

He's humble and he's substance - he knows his brief very well. He's also able to think on his feet, and very willing and comfortable answering questions.
Raab looked uncomfortable and might even be sweating. Sunak's different league.
