I take your point, but at least 19 NHS doctors or nurses have died from exposure to the virus. That is a fact, and unfortunately there will be a lot more. One thing in Patels' favour is that no one can accuse her of not social distancing. The Home Secretary has been conspicuous by her absence these last 3 weeks.

It's at least 21 now sadly, 2 more reported. I'm not trying to take away from that tragedy. There's no direct link to lack of PPE though, as of now anyway.

Apparently Robert Jenrick is back on tomorrow from his home in Southwell.. erm Herefordshire.. erm Newark...
By:
Working on a Sunday, unlike all the key worker primary reporters who are so key it appears they have the Easter weekend off.
By:
Jenrick, another of the "do as I say, not as I do" school of thought.
By:
Robert is married to Michal, and together they have three young daughters. They live in Southwell near Newark, and in London.

Obviously
![]() |
By:
So he should have gone to Souhwell when his wife and three young children are in Herefordshire
![]() |
By:
Erm, his wife works in London.
By:
Erm, they are in Herefordshire currently and went there before any travel restrictions.
By:
Hmm, his wife works in London and all their children attend school there.
By:
He sent his wife and children to their 2nd , 3rd , 4th home whatever it is to get them out of London . He has not been commuting back and forth to parliament ever day . He stated that the house in Herefordshire was his "family home ". According to his website , it is not . His wife works in London . His children school in London . He is in a position of power . An important member of government . He lied.....
By:
All that counts (obviously) is where his family is/was once the lock down was in place. No matter how many properties that they have. The alternative is the whole family traveled for no good reason.
By:
And where were they ?
By:
![]() |
By:
So you guessed ?
I don't care when or where they went . The fact is he lied . What for ? You'd think they would know better with their law degrees ? |
By:
All of that is fine Cider, so why the need to lie about it being his family home ?
Anyway, you make a valid point regarding the line of some of the questioning employed at these daily briefings. One example of this was a question directed towards Jenny Harries. It turned out to be the final question and I can't recall who asked it, but it came in the aftermath of the Calderwood drama. The journo asked a valid question then tacked on a request regarding whether Harries had visited a second home since the start of the lockdown. Hancock answered the first part and then shut down the briefing in the usual manner. It was exactly the right thing to do, the journo having no business to go on a fishing trip with Harries. |
By:
He stated they went to Herefordshire before the travel restrictions. I stated it upthread, as I'm not there I can only go off what he has confirmed. Granted it's not a luxury most of us will enjoy, I assume they have London boltholes for work there, a constituency home and a family home.
By:
The London home is the family home
![]() |
By:
What are you suggesting, his whole family should have commuted to London from Herefordshire during the lock down instead of him alone commuting to Herefordshire. He is the key worker.
By:
Yes that was highly embarrassing with Harries, Angoose. I don't think we've seen her publicly since. She seems to be such a genuinely kind hearted person.
By:
I saw her on FYI with the kids and she was great with them.
By:
Not at all, perfectly reasonable for him to join his wife and kids in the Herefordshire home.
However, there is significant evidence that shows the London home is his family home. Both him and his wife work in London, his kids go to school in London, neighbours have stated that he is never sighted in Herefordshire and that the builders have been there for extended periods over the course of the last year. His website makes no mention of it as he doesn't wish the good folks of Newark to be reminded of it, it was brought up and used against him in election campaigns. So, simply clarify that the wife and kids had travelled there before the shutdown was put in place and that he had gone to join them at the earliest opportunity. Don't claim it is the family home when the evidence shows that it is not. |
By:
Jenrick owns two, £2m homes in London, one of which is a £2.5m townhouse less than a mile from the Houses of Parliament and also purchased Eye Manor, a Grade I listed building in Herefordshire for £1.1 million in 2009.
This according to his wikipedia page says he owns two £2million London homes? |
By:
I did read that he was renovating it, maybe the website was just out of date it happens. It's the old storm in a teacup. How about these reporters travelling around the country to film some joggers in a random park and empty beaches. They are more appropriate targets.
By:
So now we have 2 houses in London where he and his wife work and the kids attend school, a rented house in Newar and another house in Herefordshire which he claims is the family home but according to newspaper reports, neighbours say that claim is "codswallop". Oh and he travels another forty miles or so to his parents house.
By:
All of that is irrelevant, his family was in Hereforshire before the lock down measures were implemented. Which property he considers the family home only he would know, but which property they were in at the start of the lock down is what matters in regard to following the rules (as unnecessary travel is ruled out)
By:
I have no problem with the man being rich . No problem with him owning several homes . No problem with him protecting his family . The problem I have is him lying about his "family home" . It's like he thought it would be frowned on so he told a small lie . i'd rather he said that he was staying in his country residence or holiday home . Maybe he thought that wouldn't go down too well. ?.....silly boy
By:
So you can determine what he can and can't consider is his family home? It's such a non story.
By:
He can consider whatever he wants, but the home that him, his wife, and his kids go home to after work and school each day is what the rest of us consider a family home
![]() |
By:
I only own one property
Funnily enough I still consider my Mum's home the family home, but I don't live there. |
By:
I consider that I am the best footballer and the best tennis player in the world.
No bugger else does though ![]() |
By:
I guess it's more of an emotional thing than the permanent residence. Just semantics really.
By:
That's one way to describe it, certainly one that a lawyer might use.
By:
All of this can be made to go away and Jenrick can come out of it smelling of roses.
All he has to do is to give over all of his excess properties to NHS for the remainder of the pandemic. Over to you Robert ![]() |
By:
By:
After all, neither are the "family home". Just spare property really.
By:
And as the Housing Minister, he understands and appreciates the plight of the homeless.

Is that a myth? ^ yes there are some. 1,500,000 people work for the NHS and getting everyone PPE is a big logistical job as it is in every country in the world. Unless you have a better distribution system to offer why not just some respect to people in the army, NHS and government who are trying the best they can instead of moaning from your sofa? |
