dropping food and medicines off government saying it was within guidelines,LOL DROVE 40 MILES told everyone else day before mothers day to let local volunteer,s,neighbours look after your parents, grand parents while you stay at home,i,d love to see my parents and grand kids and they only live half a mile way,so that must be within the rules, at least jennrick,s rules

Hold on, the Scottish lady drove to a second home. She wasn't visiting anyone as far as I know but was forced to resign as she didn't follow the guidelines.

By:
another joining, truzz, patel, rees mugg, notsocleverly in solitary confinement, the ineptitude is mindboggling, out of 40 ministers only leaves raab and sunak they can trust not to fooook up live on tv,the rest are either hiding,in hospital, self isolating or breaking the guidelines

Will claim it is within the rules.
As will millions travelling this weekend to deliver groceries and medicine to their parents at the seaside. |
|
By:
angoose what do you think will happen? imo there is no way the press should even be talking about 'release' at the moment. thankfully the scary estimate looks out, hopefully the death toll wont be too bad in the first wave, but it just seems we have no real plan so we will release and then see another peak later in the year.
|
|
By:
We need to remember what was said at the start, 80% are likely to get it, the lock down is to enable the NHS to be able to deal with the casualties in a more manageable way.
Take the supermarkets as an analogy, instead of everyone piling in and overwhelming the place in one go, now everyone still gets in but in an orderly manner. Most will still get it, the only thing that stops that is a vaccine. |
|
By:
It is inevitable that the media and the public begin to turn their attention to the “exit strategy”.
I’ve been saying for some time that formulating a plan as how to unwind lockdown measures is an exceedingly difficult task. Feels like it will require several stages with significant segmentation. How do you pull that off whilst keeping the public onside ? There is still more that isn’t known about this virus than is known. It may have some twists and turns that no one had thought of. |
|
By:
They need to know how many have had it before they release the restrictions, if it is far less than hoped for then it will be carnage all over again.
|
|
By:
exit strategy when we have only entered a very weak lock down seems a bit dumb imo. how many flights from new york/paris/milan still coming in? wuhan residents only going back to some kind of normality now after several months lock down tells us what we should expect.
i dont think south korea are approaching it thinking 80% will get it, that comes from the uk libertarian / nudge unit / fruit loops who have paid no attention to if or how long any immunity will last. these tests for how many have had it need to be extremely accurate or we will get all kinds of false data. carnage all over again is what i fear. duffy if football season is abandoned we may end up abandoning the next season too. mind you, that may be good for you, lfc will never be champions again. |

In the absence of a reliable antigen test, a suitable number will be generated from a computer model and Hi Ho Hi Ho, it’s off to work we go.

why is ferguson so respected when his other work is of so low quality? he isnt out by a bit it is like move the decimal point on several places

By:
he did some projections / clueless guesses on variant cjd and the differences in actual numbers versus projections were incredible.

Did you read the Reuters article, well worth the time.

You pick the model that provides the result you were looking for.

i did, a useful start but no more.
no mention of the role of the nudge group. what was the ferguson model predicting for deaths with the various strategies before they plugged the italian data in? (particularly in relation to the choice of herd immunity). why was testing, isolating and contact tracing never modelled by the great panjandrum? this is particularly relevant as it is the standard practice for dealing with an epidemic. the uk plan to deal with a pandemic evolved slowly, going all the way back to 2005 and we were only ever considering a flu pandemic, even after the emergence of sars, mers and ebola. we have been fighting the wrong war. i am not so sure of professional rivalry, they seem to have the same people on several committees who tended to agree with each other. |

jsm,
If Liverpool do miss out at least they can take comfort in Jordan Henderson's impending knighthood, not bad for a bloke with dodgy knees. |
|
By:
angoose, funnily enough i did think of your previously mentioned a lot of small mistakes which all came together at one time, a la piper alpha type of excuse. it was no one's fault but lessons will be learned

So much more to play out in all of this, so many variables.
I’m watching the Swedish numbers very carefully. If you look in to the reviews of disasters, they almost always reveal that there were numerous warning signs that went unheeded. This will be no different. |
|
By:
duffy, the spineless tw@t footballers. a tory mp who is chair of the dcms committee (he actually wrote a guide on how to avoid tax) and the health secretary deflect from their own deficiencies by going after the low hanging fruit of football and footballers and the thicko footballers fall for it. have the hedge fund billionaires given up their salary for the nhs? of course not.
|
|
By:
The government have dug themselves a big hole by going in so quickly and so generously with the various aid packages.
The pressure to put people back to work within the cabinet once the initial 3 months are up will be huge. |
|
By:
swedish numbers not looking too great the last time i looked? the czechs with a hard lock down and mandatory mask wearing in public look a lot better so far imo.
|
|
By:
watch for groupings as we used to say

By:
i am glad i am not the one deciding, cabinet meetings cant be boring that is for sure.

By:
The old maxim that you can’t please all of the people will never be more apt.
|
|
By:
I'm amazed nobody wears masks in the UK
It's mandatory where I live, 500 quid fine if you get caught without one on Stops you touching your face and nose all the time, it's worth it just for that. |
|
By:
even if we accept that the 'plan' was a load of tosh but wasnt this government's fault, even on here a month ago people were screaming for the government to take action.

jucel i will put up something i put on another thread, this bloke is well worth watching.
