Dr Alfa Saadu, 68, died on Tuesday at about 7.30am after contracting COVID-19 two weeks ago.

I said well over a month ago that the Government haven’t got a clue and don’t know what they are doing. As can be seen currently they can’t even organise testing.

We should be talking now about how and when we can get back to work and save jobs and businesses that are going to fold soon. The public will not stay locked down for much longer than 3 weeks. People will start going out soon and some will be running out of money. Then we will have a public order crisis prior to the oncoming financial or rather business meltdown which will be followed by mass unemployment and food rotting in fields followed by a food crisis later in the year.

I am actually quite optimistic we can come out of this but the carry on with these incompetent Government Ministers is alarming. Nobody is able to hold the Government to account. Not Labour, not the Journalists and I genuinely fear the people will not put up with it much longer
Report Cider April 1, 2020 6:09 PM BST

Report Cider April 1, 2020 6:12 PM BST
It's PHE that organise testing, not the cabinet ministers Cry

Report Angoose April 1, 2020 6:15 PM BST
Cabinet ministers are implementing testing caps then removing them .....

Government lifts 15% cap on NHS staff testing

NHS England has sent a letter to all trusts saying the government has now lifted the 15% cap on staff testing.

The letter states:

Effective today we are asking chief executives of trusts that host an NHS lab doing Covid-19 testing personally to ensure that your lab’s capacity is fully used each and every day.

This can be achieved by using all spare testing for staff/index testing, either from within your own organisation or those of neighbouring acute and ambulance trusts.

As soon as this has been implemented, and as extra lab volumes become available, the approach can over the coming days be extended to community, mental health and primary care services, along with social care.
Report Cider April 1, 2020 6:19 PM BST
To clarify for those in the dark, the CMO clearly stated (weeks ago) their advice was we had crossed the tipping point for testing/contact tracing, and there was no value in directing resources to community testing. Government went along with the sensible advice. They would however bring in community testing to the AB test (the so-called game changer). They weren't to know people in the media would come up with this false narrative as they have to be outraged about something.
Report Cider April 1, 2020 6:21 PM BST
So this has turned political, they've been forced into expanding the 'have you got it' test due the media 'outcry'.

Report Cider April 1, 2020 6:27 PM BST
I don't know for sure Angoose, I assume the cap was in place to ensure there was capacity for actual hospital patients with suspected covid 19 (and Prince Charles!).

Report Angoose April 1, 2020 6:31 PM BST
Cider, the government announced that they had a target of 10,000 test per day, nobody did it for them.
They then raised that target to 25,000 a day.

If they genuinely believe that there is no benefit to performing these tests then they should come out and say so.
From day one, they have stated that they will stand behind the science.

There will always be conflicting views on this, they simply require to explain what they are doing and why they are doing it.
No one can ask for anything more.

We now have the US producing more positive test per day than the number of test the UK is performing.

Report Cider April 1, 2020 6:40 PM BST
It's not doing the US much good is it. Once you've passed the tipping point, testing becomes a peace of mind thing. I agree there's value to getting consultants and ICU nurses tested in case they could come back to work a little earlier, and nobody has said they won't do that. I'm assuming the calculation was that they will be back within 7-14 days anyway. The ones who have it, one would hope the majority if they have the quite specific symptoms of covid 19, can't return anyway.
Report 1st time poster April 1, 2020 6:43 PM BST
keep seeing these nhs workers self isolating getting interviewed saying they had a cough but no signs of coughing on screen

nhs workers arnt think but might lack common sense

the advice was a new continuous dry cough together with a high temp, or they might just fancy wagging it, if tests so far are proving 85% of them are negative, for dr,s,nurses doesn't make them very good judges does it, I realise some are self isolating because of other family members, but unless their prepared to leave home a negative test doesn't help them

Report Angoose April 1, 2020 6:48 PM BST
Cider, what we don't have clarity on is the criteria being used for performing a test.

Performing a test on someone who is displaying symptoms appears to be logical to me.
As does performing tests on front line workers.

Difficult to imagine that tests are being performed on individuals who are not in either of those two groups.
Report Cider April 1, 2020 6:48 PM BST
No requirement for a fit to work note for covid 19, you can self cert.

Indeed, I'm sure all the "experts" on chit chat know far more about coronavirus than the chief medical and scientific officers.
And every self appointed experts on Twitter and in the Grauniad who just HAPPEN to hate Boris/the Tories with a religious like zeal, and strangely find fault in every single thing done, they'd have sorted it right out.

They'd have magicked up 1 million testing kits out of Karl Marx's grave, and uniquely amongst pretty much every other country, stopped the virus in it's tracks. As only Boris and the Tories could get it wrong. As they are Tories and everything they do is wrong.

I'd LOVE to see a press conference with 1tp answering questions. Popcorn at the ready.

When out shopping or on public transport wear latex gloves and a mask.

1tp you mentioned the possibility of spread through the air a couple of days ago, one study says 8 metres is the correct distance to keep apart because of this. the w h o still dont recommend masks yet the czech republic mandate wearing them in public and it has helped them get some measure of control. even if they dont stop you getting it they stop you coughing at everyone else. also as you cant touch your mouth or nose you have less chance of infecting yourself.
