the scientists want the data from the have you had it test, for their herd immunity theory but it wont be proven one way or another till a 2nd wave, next winter comes, hopefully there,ll be a vaccine if not countries will have to prepare foir another pandemic and if weve built iup immunity its a bruice bonus, nothing lost, steps taken will be there for the next virus to come along

Cider, the government announced that they had a target of 10,000 test per day, nobody did it for them.
They then raised that target to 25,000 a day.

If they genuinely believe that there is no benefit to performing these tests then they should come out and say so.
From day one, they have stated that they will stand behind the science.

There will always be conflicting views on this, they simply require to explain what they are doing and why they are doing it.
No one can ask for anything more.

We now have the US producing more positive test per day than the number of test the UK is performing.

It's not doing the US much good is it. Once you've passed the tipping point, testing becomes a peace of mind thing. I agree there's value to getting consultants and ICU nurses tested in case they could come back to work a little earlier, and nobody has said they won't do that. I'm assuming the calculation was that they will be back within 7-14 days anyway. The ones who have it, one would hope the majority if they have the quite specific symptoms of covid 19, can't return anyway.

keep seeing these nhs workers self isolating getting interviewed saying they had a cough but no signs of coughing on screen

nhs workers arnt think but might lack common sense

the advice was a new continuous dry cough together with a high temp, or they might just fancy wagging it, if tests so far are proving 85% of them are negative, for dr,s,nurses doesn't make them very good judges does it, I realise some are self isolating because of other family members, but unless their prepared to leave home a negative test doesn't help them

Cider, what we don't have clarity on is the criteria being used for performing a test.

Performing a test on someone who is displaying symptoms appears to be logical to me.
As does performing tests on front line workers.

Difficult to imagine that tests are being performed on individuals who are not in either of those two groups.

No requirement for a fit to work note for covid 19, you can self cert.

Only hearsay on my part once the 14 days are up.

In regard to NHS I believe the criteria so far is those self isolating where it's determined by bosses they have a critical role.

Testing on those displaying symptoms appears to be a last resort.
i.e. only happening when symptoms have become more severe following initial reporting

Other thing, loads of people holding up Germany as an example but they only appear to be a few days behind on the deaths curve. Around where we were last Friday.

Agree with you on that, Germany is on a very similar path.
And keep an eye on Sweden, remembering that they have a population of just 10M.

said it days ago if germany have most vents 30,000 plus they can keep more people alive for longer but all evidence shows their not recovering and over 80% of them will eventually die

You said more than that, you were castigating Boris for not copying Germany, claiming they were a shining example of how wrong we were.

Indeed, I'm sure all the "experts" on chit chat know far more about coronavirus than the chief medical and scientific officers.
And every self appointed experts on Twitter and in the Grauniad who just HAPPEN to hate Boris/the Tories with a religious like zeal, and strangely find fault in every single thing done, they'd have sorted it right out.

They'd have magicked up 1 million testing kits out of Karl Marx's grave, and uniquely amongst pretty much every other country, stopped the virus in it's tracks. As only Boris and the Tories could get it wrong. As they are Tories and everything they do is wrong.

I'd LOVE to see a press conference with 1tp answering questions. Popcorn at the ready.

To clarify for those in the dark, the CMO clearly stated (weeks ago) their advice was we had crossed the tipping point for testing/contact tracing, and there was no value in directing resources to community testing. Government went along with the sensible advice.

More rocket science!

Was Herd Immunity SENSIBLE ADVICE?

They weren’t on the ball from the start cider!

They let people in, they did not tag and trace enough and they kept our borders open

Here’s a bit of advice from someone on the chit chat forum

When out shopping or on public transport wear latex gloves and a mask.

The Government are not being held to account and more people are dying because of it than there should be including medical staff who still do not have proper PPE. It is more than a disgrace it is dangerous and killing people.

Here’s another bit of advice from someone on the chit chat forum who is unqualified to give medical or scientific advice, get Pharmacists proper PPE gloves, masks and even a face shield. That is not rocket science either.

1tp you mentioned the possibility of spread through the air a couple of days ago, one study says 8 metres is the correct distance to keep apart because of this. the w h o still dont recommend masks yet the czech republic mandate wearing them in public and it has helped them get some measure of control. even if they dont stop you getting it they stop you coughing at everyone else. also as you cant touch your mouth or nose you have less chance of infecting yourself.
