Driver stopped on M6 lockdown trip with wife in boot

Shocked police stopped the motorist on the M6 in Cheshire

A driver flouted the coronavirus lockdown to pick up £15 windows with his wife in the boot of his car.

The man, who had bought the windows on eBay, was stopped by police on the M6 in Cheshire on Sunday after collecting his purchase in Salford.

Police said his wife had to sit in the boot as she "could not fit in the vehicle" for the return journey to Coventry.

North West Motorway Police issued the man with a traffic offence report.

After the force tweeted news of the 220-mile round trip people reacted with a mixture of shock and disbelief.

Actually I think it's the other way round. The more people infect each other now, the sooner it will be over. If everyone observes the lockdown and never catches the virus and passes it on, we'll be locked down literally for ever.

Go, Coventry!

Police called to 'lock-in' at Coventry pub - but find something very different

The Boat landlady said she understands why the call was made, but urged members of the public to not waste the police's time during these trying time

Police received calls about a lock-in at a pub in Coventry - but it turned out to be the family who owned it playing pool.

Officers pulled up at The Boat Inn pub in Exhall expecting to find a packed pub.

But on arrival, it became clear that the family who live above the pub had been spotted in their own home, playing pool and darts in the bar area - which is well within the nation's social isolation rules.

Instead of a full pub, landlady Niki, and her family, including two children were the only ones found inside the pub.

She said: "We were just downstairs playing pool and listening to music as we live here and someone had seen the lights on and reported us for being open.

"Four police officers turned up in two cars, and came in and looked around before leaving.

"I posted a message on our Facebook page to stop people wasting (the police's) time.

"Most people know that a family live here, so I'm not sure who it could have been."

Reacting to the incident, which took place at around 11 pm on Saturday, Niki posted a message to pub-goers on Facebook, saying: "We love you all but just want to say the lights on are just me and my family playing pool, darts and listening to music.

"We live here, I would never let anyone compromise my kid's health. we had a visit from the police tonight.

"Please don’t waste their time, they are busy."

Dunno about gormless but I've heard it's quiet there.
