I will be this week,must be high chance of it being infected all the stackers,packers trays etc etc what about fruit and veg no one ever mentions it..

I suppose this must be an advantage of buying frozen, or freezing fresh meat etc. Kill the bugger stone dead.
4 cans of Branston beans sat in the freezer might look odd, but saves on the effort of washing the blighters. |

Fruit such as oranges etc can be washed same as with your hands.

If stuff can't be removed from packaging of immediately washed, we have got a 'quarantine' area for new food or drink brought into the house.

I think it's important to wash your hands immediately after a visit to the supermarket before unpacking, then again after unpacking. The former to rid-of the virus asap similarly, the latter. Also, I believe the virus have short shelf life. It also minimises the risk of infection if one touches one's face or nose.
I heard the carrier bags may need to be dispose of too, but stand to be corrected. |

I must have washed my hands a good 20x plus a day, and I'm hibernating. I only shop once a week.
The advice is wash your hands after touching any surface and after prepping food, I guess. |

wash fruit veg if eating cold .... virus killed by heat /cooking they tell me ... wash hands after packing away ... stick bags away for 3 more days ...virus will be fooked by that time experts still unsure if virus can be passed through packaging enough to cause infection ...they think extremely low |

I think the virus can remain longer in the fridge or freezer.

We bring things left outside the door in carrying gloves and quarantine new items for 3 days.
I had to break this rule a couple of days ago as I was desperate for a beer that had just arrived about 8 hours before. Poured it wearing gloves. Chucked the can. Took gloves off. Washed hands for 20 seconds. |

I drink a lot of beer which is now ordered in boxes of ten, twelve or more. Cans or bottles not fussed.
My take is the companies making the beer have automated bottling/canning lines which aren't touched by humans. Not sure what happens at the packaging end but I guess that it's also done automatically. Once inside packaging it should be safe. If it's in cardboard which mine is if you leave it for a day or two, not in the fridge, it should be safe. |

Also not sure how long the process of bottling to retailing is so may not be an immediate problem but may be something to consider in the future. Generally though I consider it a safe product.

I now have a supply of 36 Heinekiens and 18 Fosters under my desk now.
My daughter ordered me a further 24 cans from Spain to be delivered in 3-5 days. That should see me through the first few months. Beyond that I am not sure. |

12 to 14 days is about all that would cover but it is lager argh!!!! I already have family sending cases of ale - will they get through?

Unless you're in the at risk group, I find all this very strange. I went to Tescos today observing social distancing as best I could and will continue to go shopping. I was served by a teenage girl who must have been doing an 8 hour shift serving hundreds of people and look on here to find grown men too terrified to leave the house getting home deliveries. If you live with a vulnerable person/ or are vulnerable fair enough but if war broke out, I'm glad Im not in the trenches with grown men washing their hands 20 times a day at home sh1tting themselves in terror

My wife is in a high risk group. Been isolated for 13 days. Could be a year or more to go. Who knows at this point. |

I think we will all end up getting it eventually and if people have partners/family in the high risk group I understand caution but I live alone and have no intention of being holed up like a prisoner ordering food online. I hope I dont get it but if it happens so be it. I keep my distance as best I can from people but live in the middle of nowhere anyway with my closest shop 6 miles away
